I just noticed something. this is indeed a vintage picture taken back in the day. Almost every tire on the load is as slick as a gut. Worn so thin that a sharp marshmallow would puncture them. Those are all bias ply tires. if the same kinda load was being hauled today it would be tires with lots of tread (dem Radials). I bet when that load reached its destination the smoke from the tire kill could be seen for miles.
