Tailgate swap

I have a 75. if i decide to go softtop all the time and dispense with the hard top I will probably change out the tailgate for a truck gate. Picture of current tailgate is pasted in.

So WHICH year tailgates are : a) the easiest to swap in? and: b) look the best on a 75 (bearing in mind that eventually this truck will have the white sidebars on it also).

Re: Tailgate swap

All '73-87 pickup gates fit. GM designed it that way on purpose due to hardtop be an option.
Design wise, I'd stick with the '73-'76 pickup gates.

Re: Tailgate swap

73-74 are one style and 75-77 another.
More info than I care to type right now but this will give you an idea even if it is GMC biased.

Unless it's going to be a show truck, run whatever you find. The hard part is finding the factory weatherstrip hold downs for pickup tailgate that go on the floor and up the inner bedside. Thing will rattle like crazy!
GM put weather strips on the truck for pickup gate vs on the gate itself for roll up window Blazer gate.
Factory diagram. Later Blazer but same parts...

Re: Tailgate swap

so the C10 / K10 75 tailgate should be a direct drop in then for the Blazer. IF i bought an entirely new tailgate, do the internal components forme th blazer gate fit into the truck gate for opening and closign pruposes?

Re: Tailgate swap

None of the Blazer tailgate parts are used.
You use all pickup tailgate components.
Latches, handle, strikers, hinges etc...
This will help explain what you need.

Re: Tailgate swap

sounds like a trip to a pick n pull will be the best move to try to grab the whole shebang in one move.
