Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

I was in a junkyard today looking for parts for my '77 and found a '73 with buckets & console in it that was just hauled in. Were buckets a factory option? How do I tell if they are factory buckets or something from a Blazer/Jimmy?

Look anything like these? If so run back and get them, even if you don't want them they bring good money. Yes, they were a factory option. From what I understand around 74-75 the console changed to round cup holder pockets instead of the rectangular ones seen here. '81 and newer are like the plastic ones found in the '80's blazers and suburbans.

The RPO/SPID code will be A50 or YJ5 for bucket seats. The truck should be a Cheyenne or Cheyenne super trim line.
Look at the seat mounts as it should look like proper mounts and bolts.

Sweet picture. I took that in my old shop about 11 years ago. Note that it's next to my Gentleman Jim and the wheel is off my K10 because I'm rebuilding the diff there...

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

They must be something else. The seats were small & square...didn't have any pattern in them that I noticed and were a blue plaid. Truck was blue too so thought maybe they were something special. I'll try to get a pic as soon as it dries out enough to get back in...rained 1.5 inches tonight.

The 73 seats would have looked square on top. They are probably factory. I would get them ,the tracks, and the mounts that the inside front mounts that the seat tracks bolt to.
Good find.
Take a pic and post it here and someone will tell you pretty quick if they are factory.

If you do get them, and they are factory, I'd like to be first in line to buy them from you.

Center console had a home made mount...not sure what these are out of.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

Those are buddy buckets from the previous body style. I have heard they carried over to the new body in '73 but I have never personally seen any. These could very well have been from the factory. Check out the mounts. Definitely worth getting if the price is reasonable.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

Where there different types of buckets for 67-72? I've only heard the term "buddy buckets" when referring to extended cab seats?

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

These were referred to as buddy buckets because of the fold down center arm rest/center seat. Regular buckets had a center console.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

I am pretty sure those are NOT buddy buckets. They were available in 1967 and 1968 only. Both seats and the console mounted on a frame. If the center console had a homemade mount there would not be a buddy bucket frame. Also, that center arm rest does not look anything like a buddy bucket console. Those seats look, to me, like they came out of a van or a motor home.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

You are definitely correct about the single frame. I missed the comment about the home made mount. The more I look at these I'm convinced you are also correct that these are not original. The seat backs are too low and the top corners were more rounded on the factory seats. Good catch! My apologies for the misinformation!

I think you guys are right. My buddy has a '76 shorty van and his buckets look exactly the same as those.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

I think those seats are from a early 70's van. I seem to remember the plaid pattern on some base models with cloth seats. The console would not be from a van, though. Chip.

Re: Factory buckets in a '73 C10?

Cool thanks for the help/info! The salvage yard owner only wanted $20 but I didn't want to lay in the weeds & mud to pull them out if they weren't worth anything. I've had some decent finds there in the past so I was hopeful. lol
