crew cab

So I have seen some crew cab in the 70ish model and I was just wondering what I would need and how much of a pain it would be to convert it to crew cab.

Re: crew cab

I have thought about that. I'm 6'1" and I find the '67-'71 cabs kind of cramped. this was especially true with my '68 GMC. The bench seat was so bad that the springs were showing thru the foam rubber. They occasionally tore holes in my Levi's when I got out. One slow day at work (I worked in a Van Conversion shop)
I fabbed a steel base and mounted some take-out new van seats in it. I had to bend the seat backs forward at the base and mount them lower than the bench seats. Needless to say this position was less than comfortable. The backs of the seats were hard against the tank and it was still cramped.
I think that anyone with some body work skill could "stretch" the cab. If the side panels were to be cut vertically behind the rear door post (to preserve to door function) and the roof cut across the middle, some filler panels could be made and the cab could be "stretched" 6" or more. This operation might take 2 cabs to get the right fit on the panels. The floor would also have to be stretched. The bed could be shortened or an existing short bed installed. Or if you were starting with a Longhorn (extra long bed and frame) You may be able to use a standard long wide or long stepside bed.
If only I owned a Truck Boneyard...

Re: crew cab

I don't know how to attach a link to threads on here, but i do have some subscribed and I can type the thread names. hopefully, if you search the forum with the thread names it will come up. there's some "beautiful" work done by some very talented people on these threads. I am a tall man myself and have pondered the thought of a crew cab, or a modified suburban many of times. I'll post the threads below. Let me know if you find them.

1] **YOUNG FRANKENSTIEN** the truck Chevrolet should have built
2] Need Pic's of Crew Cab Conversion's 67-72
3] New Project! 67 Extended cab... ( this is a member named "Rockrin", one of the most talented body men I have ever seen. In my opinion.)

I hope these help you out in your search.
