Running Board Brackets
What are you guys doing for running board brackets if not using the factory ones. Not sure I want to stick factory brackets on my tube chassis. Any good ideas? Pics are great too.

My '54 is completely disassembled and I went out to look at the bare frame. I've been fabricating for a whole lot of years and in my opinion the original running board supports will be hard to improve.
They were made strong enough to support a big farmer and a 100 lb sack of feed and yet they need to be somewhat flexible. Is your frame tubing 4x2? What wall thickness? I can measure it tomorrow but I think the original 3100 frame was stamped out of 12 gage sheet metal. It doesn't appear to be 1/8" thick and 11 gage is .120.

At $300 for a full set, I can fab something better looking for a third of the cost.

My frame is 2x4 .120 wall. I have no problem with their function, I just dont think welding a set of them on the side of a chassis I built from scratch will look quite as well as Id like.

Good point there but I wouldn't weld stock ones on a stock frame let alone a custom frame.
frames I'd say fab up a set and remember that the three stock ones are slightly different from each other and the ones on 3100 frames are different than the ones on 3600 frames where the rails don't taper out as much.

My chassis has threaded inserts, so for me, bolting the supports is the only good option. If there are drawings available anywhere I haven' t found them.
