69 LWB Flatbed

My high school hotrod finally made it out to join me in Wisconsin. My parents just towed it 2200 miles from CA on a uhaul trailer. My dad originally rebuilt the truck in 1995 for my sister, brother, and I to drive in high school. He was supposed to just get it in "running order". I thank him every day for doing a little bit better than just running. Lots of memories in that truck. It has a 350 from a '76 pickup and a granny 4 speed on the floor. She sings pretty loud on the freeway taching around 3k. The truck is getting a little tired now 20 years after being rebuilt. I have big plans for it, but like most projects, it will likely be slow going as the 3 kids under age 4 take up most of my time. A short list of improvements include shortening the wheelbase, updating the suspension/brakes, doing an LS and auto tranny swap, and getting bucket seats inside.

what are people's thoughts on shortening the flat bed vs. putting a fleetside bed on?

A short step side bed looks sweet also. But I am in love with step side anyway.
