I am looking for a straight 6 setup. More concerned that it has all the brackets than running condition. I want to take out my 350 and swap in a six just cant take the gas bill anymore.

a buddy has one he is selling,just took it out to install a 350.has all the brackets,even p/s.
runs good,only about 60,000 on it.
thinks he`s looking to get 250.00 out of it.
it will have to be picked up,no shipping.

That sounds like what I am looking for but I think that is a bit too far for me cost me more in gas than the engine is.

There is a posting today for one that is from a 77 nova only 11k miles on it. let me find out who it was. The truck was only $800 bucks or someting like that.

It was 72 shorty but he is just as far away. Maybe buy the whole deal and get your money back in other parts.

I had the six before swapping in a V8, and I don't recall it being that much better than the smallblock on gas, maybe a couple mpg max...

I'd say gearing and driving style has as much to do with fuel economy as the motor... difference between a big block and a six would be signifcant, no doubt...

Your in LUCK I bought a 72 swb from a lady a few months back and it had a 6cly. in it and I swapped it out for a 402 BB and I still have the engine which had only 57.000 miles on it for 150.00 OBO
and I'm in Lancaster S.C. where do you live?

I am in Sumter. Sounds like what I am looking for do you have all the brackets that go with it? I have a 81 with a 350/350 and just like the straight 6 as much as I would like the better gas millage just getting old I guess. I will send you a private message with my phone and email address .

Good luck, I just pulled a straight six out of my truck and replaced it with a 350. Same gas mileage. Almost no difference at all. You might be better off swapping out the 350 turbo for a 700r4 or changing the rearend gear.

What were you getting with it? Right now I get 12 to 13. I had the 700r4 it went balistic on me and launched it's gears all over the place. But to be honest the gas millage was not that much better with it either.

I had a 73 4x4 350 4 bbl,4 sp,3.73 diffs and changed it to a 6 and went from 8 to 14 mpg. I think it would be worth the swap. I have a 72 cst blazer now that is going from 350-350 w/ tilt to 292/nv4500 and leaving stock 3.73 diffs. I hope to gain alt least 4-5 mpg. I have to admit I get 10-12 w/ it now. moodyholler

I have never gotten better fuel economy using a 6 cyl vs 8cyl in our trucks. They are, however, extremely tough and reliable. My 2 cents.

i think if you did a few mods to the 6, that it would get better mileage. i am pretty sure the CR is very low on these, maybe find some domed pistons? header? HEI? 4 bbl intake? I would like to get a six also, they are durable.
