Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

I bet if the owners of most of those traditional style trucks saw their trucks posted as ratrods they would get mad.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

easy on the rat rod word there guys hahahah These are nothing but old school hot rod pickups. I know I'd be pissed if someone referred to my truck as a rat rod when it's done. There is a big difference between old school and rat rod

Btw here's my 56 Jimmy thats work in progress, for me the word is 'Patina' I agree with the majority on this board that "rat rod" is the wrong terminology used too often here.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

Saw this up at the Junction on a ride (Bay area motorcycle riders know what i'm talking about)
According to the driver, on a late 70's chevy RV platform, SBC 350/TH350 drivetrain, model A body, 50's buick hood and standard flatbed out back. That's my buddy i ride with checking it out.

Watched him drive away with his wife on a VERY twisty road up in the coastal range.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

I prefer the term "Rusto Mod" and that is what I am shooting for on my truck. I had to strip the 40 year old white paint job and re-paint most of the truck to its factory Ocean Green. I then "aged" the paint and rusted the bare metal to get this look.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

I've been hanging around here for a while now. Just got interested in trucks a couple years ago (like it seems every one else has). I have not put up many posts, I just like to read about other peoples builds and ideas.
I thought this pic fit the thread, in fact all the projects I have in waiting would.
The rats prolly do have residence now, but I hope to move them out before too
long.

Re: how about some pics of 47-59 "rat rods"

This is mine, 1950 GMC 150.

So far I've rewired, and carried out a top end motor rebuild. It's been reringed a few times, but the bores are original to the 228, mated to 4 Munice SM420. Oh and sorted the oil leaks.
At some stage I'll lower it with a dropped Axle from Sids.

The bodywork is get liberally coated with Briwax using an old paint brush, Rusted areas looks like a horse chestnut in the sun.
