Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

There are still good buys on ebay.

Got this 400 kickdown switch with the harness for $51.

Normally the kickdown switch does not come with the harness.

Life is good.

Are they hard to get? I think I have a couple and have to imagine they came on about 20 million vehicles between 1964 and whenever the 4L80E came along in about 1987. That's 23 years of production, and it was the only HD auto GM used with any regularity (except he powerglide).

They are somewhat scarce, believe it or not. When you do find one, the wire harness is usually spliced, cooked, or not present at all as Dewayne noted.

Re: Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

They all seem to be missing the piece that bolts to the carb linkage that pushes on the button at full throttle. Kinda useless without it

I guess I'm lucky to have a 72, when I converted to a T400 I ordered a new GM switch, mounted it to the factory bracket above the accelerator pedal, and ran a couple wires; did not need a fancy harness.

That one is for the cable linkage and mounts inside on the pedal bracket. The one the OP showed bolts to the back of the carb. Like you said your 1972. I have a 69 that is missing the actual carb piece. I guess what may be the only resolve is to convert to cable at a future date

Re: Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

Looks like it would be pretty easy to fabricate something that would work.

Re: Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

I could, but I just don't have the time. I need to complain about it more first. But it is not too often that I really need passing gear. I was just making a point about all the sellers that don't give you all the pieces or just don't know what they are selling or how it works

Re: Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

Yeah, I hear ya. Most people that buy these particular switches already have one in place and buy one as a back up since they are hard to find. They are easy to bench test and I notice most sellers offer them up "as-is" or "untested" when they do come up for sale.

Re: Nice 400 Kickdown switch on ebay

I have a tH400/NP205 set-up slated to go in my '72 once I build the 383. If I found a complete '72 kickdown assembly w/harness I'd hop right on it. This one with harness is tempting. it;s what this lacks that the ones I see lack, though, as KW mentioned. The biggest reason i'm not going for this is it's sold! Dag nabbit!
