Door bottom replacement

This is not a concours replacement and the truck will be my work truck. But I am open to any constructive criticism and specially for anyone that is looking for a guide how to replace theirs as I don't have much body work experience. I'll let the picture do the talking .

Re: Door bottom replacement

The doors are in bad shape but if I get 5-10 years of use from them I will be extremely happy! I can't remember where I bought the replacement parts but a lot of trimming was necessary, including reworking (read: beating) the inside door jamps to flow smoothly with the rest of the door.

Re: Door bottom replacement

Good job. I had to do this but I used rocker panels cut up to fit for the thicker metal. Looks good. Trevor

Re: Door bottom replacement

There are a few spot welds that have to come out as well the front of the door bottom is double walled around the hinge area so be careful cutting up front or you can mess up bad real quick. one thing you need to watch for is angles or your door may look funny at the bottom against the fender and cab corner. I had to redo a lot of my bottom it seemed like it was too much material on one end and not enough on the other it that makes sense. That has been quite a few panels ago though.
Also, be careful, the doors that look good from the outside those doors [well all of those panels do] rust from the inside out. The General in his great wisdom did not have foresight to put rust preventative on the inside of any of these panels, you should look inside a "real nice" bedside. That is why I split open all of my sides and coat them with something to slow down this process if nothing else for my own piece of mind ,but That is a job I WOULD NOT recommend for a newbie to bodywork cause it climbs on up the difficulty meter. Re: Door bottom replacement

Thanks Jim, I was able to clean the inside when I removed the bottom and a lot of rubberized spray went in there. Here are some of the spot welds (yellow) but I may have missed one or two. Definately not a quick DIY job! :-).
