Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

Not sure about the truck, but the SPID is fake (ok, I THINK the SPID is fake). Incorrect font. I don't believe "CPMFORT TILT STEERING" or "CHEYENNE SUPER SPOT" were ever factory options, unless Spot was the dog that came with the truck. And there should always be 6 digits after the assembly plant, not 5. Like I said, MAYBE the truck is real and they just did a poor job of repro-ing the SPID. But if I wanted a real Cheyenne Super, I'd confirm with a build sheet or very detailed owner records before buying. If you just like the truck, and it is quite nice, then go for it if the price is right. All I know is it's a swb done up like a Cheyenne Super (perhaps a real one) and the only trim item missing is the bright cover on the tailgate handle. I can't see the glovebox door front, but most all other Cheyenne Super tell-tales are present.

EDIT: I missed the gb door - it is shown in 1 pic, and it has the correct woodgrain and aluminum insert.

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

Shouldn't the mirror be on the windshield on a 72. Also I agree the build sheet looks fake/ wrong. Still it may be a nice truck hiding in there.

I'm baffled. 72 door panels. Can't tell if they are 72 door for sure or not. Spid looks fake. Mirror on ceiling?

Nice truck in the end.

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

There are "fake" SPIDs and there are ones that were "redone". There is a difference

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

I do believe that is the wrong font. And on my 72, Cheyenne Super. It is abbreviated as... Cheyenne Super Spor. Plus the mirror being on the roof is completely and totally wrong for a 72. It never happened from the factory.

Great looking truck! I wouldn't let a sticker deter me from buying it.

Looks like a boardmembers truck too...

Nice truck in the end.
I put 72 doors on my truck and they have a screw under the vent window to hold the door together better on the top front. On my 71 doors, the spot weld came apart on the reinforcement and they tend to open up where the window felts are. They also have the correct holes for the door panel clips. I attached a file photo to show it.

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

Auction was taken down. The SPID is faker than fake. I prefer an obvious fake to a well done fake. I'm ambivalent on the fake SPIDs we have available to us, as they're as close to perfect as you're going to get.

I argue the SPID reproducers should have a page listing the VINs they have issued replacement SPIDs for.

Only helps the price for guys like me who have the actual build sheet :-)

Who goes to the trouble of badly faking a SPID on a laser printer with proportional fonts and then clips text and inserts typos for that feeling of originality? Or maybe they were just sloppy and have bad spelling, I don't know.

That Harris truck above is beautiful. I just realized I have one of those wheels, came on my Camaro but was incorrect, so replaced it with the correct Rosewood. But it looks nice in your truck, and better yet - mine's blue, same as my truck. Just need a quick-disconnect to go between bus-driver and small wheel.

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

It is the label that goes in the glove box that lists all the trucks options. Today they are known as a rpo code sheet and instead of a bunch of written options, they have the factories codes for different options that is standard throughout the whole car line. It is known as a RPO code or regular production order code. Look in the box of your newer truck and see the lines of numbers and letters? that is todays version off the SPID. For instance instead of listing the rear end as a 3:73 rear gear with posi track on two lines as would be on the old spid todays codes say GT4 G80. It is a little fun fact [although kinda useless] that is how the Z28 came about it was gonna be named the panther I think but just right before the press release they change the name and used the rpo code instead Z28. That is also why you see the Z71 on the side of so many trucks that is the suspension package it has but it became more trendy to have instead of a necessity. Jim

The "D" is for "dentification"

That's a nice looking truck.

I'd call it a custom spid.

Re: Is this Cheyenne on eBay a Fake???

I'd like to thank those that took the time to explain this to a naïve soul such as I.

It's through forums like this that silly fools like me actually become educated and hopefully don't embarrass themselves (much) out here in the world.

Are there ever any local get-togethers for the members from here? I live in Southern California and would enjoy getting to know some guys that have rebuilt these trucks. As I toddle along and have problems and questions, it would be nice to actually show someone what the problem is and get a hands (and eyes) on reply.

Thanks again for all the help
