Front upper ball joint fitment

I've got a 72 c20 that I'm converting to c10. I bought an entire front crossmember from a 69 or 70 c10 and a set of spindles from a 71 so I can keep the disc brakes.

From what I have read on here I should just be able to install ball joints for a 72 c10 and then install the spindles but the 72 ball joints (upper) are .1" larger in diameter than the hole in the a-arm.

The ball joints I have are designed so the rubber boot is actually in the hole of a-arm. I believe that is the extra .1" of diameter.

The lower ball joints are pressed in so the rubber boot is put on after installation and snaps onto a groove around the ball joint. The uppers aren't made the same way.

These are Moog parts and the numbers seem to match what everyone else is using so I do not think its the parts. Has anyone had an issue like this?

I do not just want to open the hole because I would be getting very close to the mounting holes.

Ok, never mind. I figured it out. How about putting the rubber boot UNDER the a-arm.
