Price check : Factory roller 350 block

I'm looking to buy either 2bolt/4bolt (i dont care) factory roller 350 block. What do i need to be ready to spend for one? All of the spider assembly stuff I see on ebay all the time, but hardly ever a block.. anyways, how much do i need to start saving for. Thanks, Frank

I have two friends that run a small block class pulling truck division and have had over 500hp on a 2bolt main cap bottom end. I wont be pushing anything near that, but if the price is the same or fairly close I will always pick the 4 bolt

You can get a brand new longblock GMPP crate motor for around $1560.00 with a 3yr, 36K mile warranty & no core charge.

GM P/N: 12513151

This is a 350 Roller Motor designed as a replacement for the 91-3 Caprice,Roadmonster & Cadillac B body cars. This motor is actually an upgraded replacement for these cars. It is also essentially a direct replacement for the roller 350 TPI motors. I believe the cam specs are a little different though for the TPI.

**This is the identical motor as found in the 9C1 Police Package Caprice's from 91-3**

If you don't want to spend the knot for the crate motor, look into finding one of the 9C1 motors, they are available & relatively cheap. Look for wrecked policecars or taxi's. They will usually sell at auction for between $25.00 & $250.00 for a complete car(get the 700R4 from it too). A fella up the street bought 2 91' 9C1 cars from an auction last month for $75 for the pair & they are both complete & running

I bought a wrecked 92 model caprice for the motor and tranny, and it is already in my '71. Roller 350 / 700r4 complete transplant I am just wanting a bare block to start a bulidup for my '89 here.. I am not going to be buliding it up stock, but if it came up maybe a short block out of a late 97 / 98 model vortec truck with the pm rods would be ok.. If not ill be going with an eagle bottom end. I live in the boonies of Arkansas.. taxi's are non existant in my area.. and lets not even talk about police lol Thanks for your help Frank

The vortec motor would be nice to start with.......

I'm a little tweaked that I missed the auction for the 9C1 cars cause I need the tranny for my wagon & I refuse to pay the $500 they want for a used 700R4. Half tempted to convert the Caprice to a 5 or 6 speed!!

i bought one for 150 from a fleet maintenace mechanic. it's out of a 95 3/4 ton truck. he said that when their motors need a rebuild they just buy crate motors, so the block is still virgin. i also bought a vortec 350 from a 99 van for 300. if you are interested i'll sell you the one from the 95 for what i paid for it plus shipping

it's a 95 350 tbi longblock. it has about 100,000 miles, has not been rebuilt and has not been disassembled. the oil pan and valve cover gaskets look like they have been replaced. it's greasy and is sitting outside my garage. no accessories come with it just the assembled block and heads ready for teardown and rebuild. if you want me to check the bore and the mains, let me know.

Just a couple days ago someone in Oklahoma got a 87 police Caprice with the 350. Is this the same thing your all talking about with a roller motor?

No. These are the 91-3 Caprice(bathtub body) with the 9C1 police package option. The regular 91-3's come std. with a 305 TBI motor & an optional 350 TBI. I don't believe the 350's were a roller motor as the 9C1 motors are. The 94-6 Caprice 9C1 had the LT-1 350's. The civilian 94-6 Caprice's were optioned with both the 4.3 V8(baby LT-1) and the LT-1. All 94+ wagons were std. with the LT-1.

Man, where are you people at when I'm selling my parts for tuition, I had a 350 Vortec, with heads, and the FI intake, tried to sell it for $550 and no one wanted it. I got a a running 454 minus exhaust, and no one wanted it for $700, and it ran so nice untill I pulled it, still have it though.

most all of the one piece rear seal blocks I've built have at least had the bosses for the roller cage. It looks like it would be simple to drill the block and tap it. I've bought two late model four bolt blocks for 100.00 or less.

I have had bad luck then, two that I have got so far have not had even the stands in the lifter valley to tap for the spider yet alone anything else like the retaining plate bosses on the front.. And one of those blocks was a 4 bolt main even.. Oh well I guess it will still be worth holding on to just because of the 1 peice rear main if nothing else

One place to check is with the boat shops they usually sell the customer a new motor so no core charge. I recently bought a boat take out motor that died before the first oil change. This was a vortec motor that only needed the crank turned and two new rods. I paid 300.00 for it!
