My 69' C20 has all new gas tank (steel), fuel lines, electric fuel pump, filter and gas cap. The problem is when I go to fuel it I cant even set the pump on the slowest setting. I have to hold the pump handle about half way to the slowest setting. Any ideas or suggestions?

Does it have a vent line on it? Some of the newer tanks Have a pretty small filler neck on them so the air can't escape.

Yes it has a vent line. The filler tube is about 1 1/4" id. and the vent tube is about 3/8" id. When I take the gas cap off to fuel the truck, I get a big rush of air but I'm not sure if its blowing out or sucking in (I'm leaning towards sucking in). I believe the tank was purchased at O'Reilly's if that makes any difference.

You need to work on the fill hose and vent line for it to fill up fast

Sounds like your vent line is plugged. I would remove it and check it to verify. Just my $.02!

You need a vented gas cap for one thing, sounds like the one you have is a non-vented one.

I agree with 4shongo & cdowns, check the vent hose and fill hose for kinks or blockage.

The gas cap is new and vented (I double checked!). Ill look into the vent and fill lines but I was under the truck last Sunday. Every thing looks good. No kinks or sharp bends. The filler and vent tubes are only about 14" long.

If you get a big rush of air when you remove the gas cap it is not a vented gas cap// how did you check it??// AND YOUR VENT IS NOT VENTING EITHER

As far as the vent not venting I think your right. Im pretty sure the gas cap is vented because I just bought it and it said "Vented" on the box.

If it was a vented cap you would not get a rush of air in OR out when you take the cap off. I would take it back and exchange it for another one, it may be defective..

Ill get the cap replaced but, I don't see how it would help my slow fueling problem. There has to be a plug or restriction in the filler tube or vent tube.

It wouldn't, I was just responding to your statement in post #3 about the rush of air when you took the cap off. I posted my thoughts on the fill problem in post #6.

Your vent tube could have collapsed internally. They are constructed in 2 or more layers, so what looks good on the outside could be collapsed on the inside.

UPDATE!!
I got under there today to find the problem. The Po who installed the new fuel tank, used a piece of old radiator hose for the fill line. The gas deteriorated the hose to the point that it got soft and collapsed where it crossed the frame and went down into the tank. Also, he used the 1/4" smog line fitting for the vent line instead of the 3/8 line. I went to O'Reilly's and got a piece of 1 3/8" gas filler hose and 3/8" gas hose and new clamps. The fuel hose is much more rigid than radiator hose but it still kinked a little at the frame bend so, I got a piece of stainless tubing 3" long and 1 1/4" in diameter and slit it down the side. Then I slid it over the point where the hose was bending and put a hose clamp over it and tightened it down. No more kink!!! Now I'm off to the gas station for a QUICK fill up and then to the SPCA for some volunteer work.
