Can't find tires... Not happy

The tires on my Sub are about 14 years old with less than 5000 miles on them. Not happy about having to replace them. Surprise, surprise no one makes a 33x12.5x16.5 tire anymore. More than one place told me it's very hard to even get a 35x12.5x16.5. I know I should go with a 16 inch wheel but I love the wheels I have......... If anyone knows a maker please chime in........

Re: Can't find tires... Not happy

Just got off the phone with BFG customer service and they don't make that size anymore. Coker has the size in a very "old school" tread pattern for $331 a pop.... Sad part is that even if I find them, I'll just have to it again next time around........ Bad day!

I don't know how gnarly a tread pattern that you are willing to deal with, but Interco, Super Swampers, make several tires in 33x12.50x16.5. Try their website intercotire.com.

I'm already saving up for a wheel and tire upgrade from my 16.5's..
Not gonna play the game of slim pickins anymore with the 16.5's.

Re: Can't find tires... Not happy

BFG still makes them and are available. You need to find the right tire distributor that has them in stock. My tire vendor called BFG and was told they are discontinued but that is untrue. If you get in touch with the right person at BFG who knows what they are talking about you will get the order number and the tires. Most BFG employees are ignorant of the fact that they still produce the 16.5 - I have 2 on order for the next production run. When is the next production run ? Who knows ....LOL If I wasn't doing a restoration I would get 16's next time. Interco makes a few 16.5's and there are several trailer tires in 16.5 that are bias ply to choose from. I have some new 16.5 Firestone Trans force for the front.

Unclefreddy, Hello neighbor! Hope you don't think I'm being lazy. I'm really looking for this size. Called the local Firestone dealer....... Nothing. Checked Interco, yea they have them but not really what I'm looking for. I know it's a 4x4 but really do I ever take it wheeling? No.......... I've call at least 12 tire shops all the same..... "Good luck". Who's your guy that can order them? I'll wait........

Would you mind posting a shot of your wheels. They must be pretty cool to go through all the trouble this is causing you.

Re: Can't find tires... Not happy

This was a surprise to me..... last time I checked, BFG still had them. Not too long ago either. You might get lucky and locate a set at a tire store, but chances may be slim. Don't think I would run trailer tires except on a trailer though. Guess I'm lucky my BFG All Terrains in that size still have plenty of good tread left. Hope I don't break one...... Not sure what I'll eventually replace them with, but whatever I get will no doubt be mounted on 16x7 or 16x8 wheels -- if I can locate some decent 16" steel wheels.

I picked up some really nice ones off of a motor home that showed up at my local salvage yard. Price was reasonable too.

Re: Can't find tires... Not happy

My thing is, that I plan to take my burb on long road trips. I don't want to be stuck at some small town, and the only tire guy can get me from stock are 16's. Sure he can order me a new tire, but it won't get to me for a few days...

Not the situation I want to put myself into, so that's the reason I am saving up for new wheels/tires.

I found a set of them (2) in a pawn shop locally for I think 225 on rims and brand new. I didn't note the year of manufacture though. I can go checkem if you'd like.

Re: Can't find tires... Not happy

I want to thank everyone for there help. But after 20+ phone calls and many inrenet searches, using links provided! I'm throwing in the towel. 33x12.5x16.5 is a dinasuor tire size. I've found 1 new BFG tire in that size. Every tire store says forget it. Yes, there are a very few tires made for a 16.5 wheel, but my research tells me "not for long". My wheels are nothing special Ansen slotted mags. But growing up with these trucks it was those or wagon wheels. I like it old school so for 20 years that's what I had and loved the look. Now for practical reasons it looks like 16" steels with caps are in my future. Yes there are a lot of 16" and 17" or bigger wheels but my Sub isn't a star on pimp my ride. Time now to make a move into the new millineum......... reluctantly....... Thanks everyone for your input.
