door hinges

I need to replace the door hinges on my 71 C10. What I am looking for is feedback/reactions/information on the aftermarket hinges out on the marketplace.

There must be dozens of truck owners that have purchased and used these parts. Do they fit well? Do they work well? What (if any) are the problems you encountered in installing them? What source did you use for them? Did you find one source better than othes?

Any and all information is appreciated.

Unless they're bent...you can likely get away with replacing the pins and bushings vs entire hinge replacement.

X2 on what Molberg said. i used my old hinges and put new pins and bushings in them. Nice n tight now. save yourself some money.

ok.....but what about the mechanism in the top hinges? That's the little brake system that holds the door open and helps keep it open. Has anyonr ever replaced those parts of the hinge.

I have two sets of hinges....the ones on my truck (which seem to have good pins and bushings) and a set I got for in a lot of parts. I'd like the doors to stay open when they get that way!!!!

Unless your pads are worn away; I stuck a large flat blade screwdriver in-between the two flat bars that the friction pads rub on and twisted thus spreading them apart. works good again.

Hey Cigar! That is called a door check. I need to fix mine too now that you mention it. I didn't even know if these old trucks had door checks. I never looked.

There was a fix in a thread about 6 months ago, they replaced the friction pads with something.. Now i wish i saved it.

The PO of my '72 backed up with the driver's door wide open and caught a tree, mangling the door skin, popping out and losing the door check, and possibly tweaking the hinges. Since I'm gonna have to replace the door anyway, replacing the hinges isn't the worst thing.

At least the passenger door only needs new pins and bushings.

I did this yesterday and man what a difference and yes I had to take the doors off as the pins where a little too tight...

OK....so far no one has mentioned that they have ever purchased the new door hinges that are made off shore. So with that being said, there's no feedback to my original question about whether these off shore made hinges are good or bad.

Anyone out there that has bought the off shore hinges and used them care to comment???

I purchased upper hinges for mine from Truck and Car Shop. I have never liked them and I am rebuilding my originals. Doors don't close right as there is not enough clearance for the factory bolt heads between the hinge halves when closed. Find some originals or fix yours. My 2 cents.
