Those Roadmasters are one of the most underrated highway cruisers

Forgive me if I missed this, but on the 'Vette setup is there a swaybar? Seems like the transverse leaf would make it unnecessary. I can't remember from the last time I was under one.

Yes there is but my IFS didn't come with one. Not sure if I should be adding mounts for one or not.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

Sid I recently picked up a C4 front and rear. I'm using the 36 rear. I was hoping you would share a high res image or the front cross member plan shown back in post 98.
Cheers

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

I don't have a very good camera as you can tell by my pictures but can get you any dimensions you need. The drawings you refer to are for 84-87 parts. I made mine to 88-96 specs. I measured my stock Vette cross member and built mine accordingly.

Find out what year your parts are from and I can help you no problem.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

Forgot that a had a few new pictures I could post. These are from last week and weekend.

Starting to build the mounts. They are made of 3" X 1 1/2" X 1/8" tube. The dog bone brackets are tacked to the frame to make sure I don't lose the wheel centre.

A few of the bat wing cross member and brackets I made ready to be installed. The brackets are made out of 3/16" plate.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

Installed new bushing in the bat wing. The Prothane Total Kit came with bushings for both the 84-87 and 88-96 bat wing. The 84-87 ones are extra and will use them for other mounting brackets I need to make.

In the picture of the old bushings, the thin metal sleeve you see had to be removed for the new bushings to fit. Made me stop and think for a bit on what was going on. Bushing kit came with no instructions. The new bushings fit nice a tight. I drilled holes around the perimeter of the old rubber bushing to make it easier to remove them. A little lubricant between the bushing and the housing made it easy to remove them.

Now that the new bushings are installed, I will know that the rear will be and stay in the correct place on final assembly.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

The new cross members are in. They are located about 4" above the bat wing so I can run the exhaust through there as opposed to underneath like on the Vette.

a few of the carrier mount. This is where I used one of the extra 84-87 bat wing bushings.

I'm now working on the rear shock mounts.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

Thanks guy's! The fabbing of parts sure eats up the hours. It's a wonder nobody has laughed at my wooded wheels.

They are 28" tall which is what I plan on running in the end. The Vette wheels I have are 25 1/2" tall. Hope things turn out as planned in ride height and appearance.

I should have a couple hours tonight to work on the rear shock mounts. I'll snap a few pictures as well as a few of the carrier mount for all to see how I made it.

Cheers!

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

iv seen guys do the same with wooden wheels. nothing wrong with that one bit. I actually thought it was you using your head, which you are. its ideal to have the right size tire for your ride height. and yeah fab work eats up time for sure.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

T bone, your Vette parts are the same as mine. Here are the pictures that were shared with me. Keep in mind that the dimensions are not the same as your stock vette cross member. Mine measured differently. My measurement from the bottom of the cross member to the top of the upright where the UCA mount goes is 10 1/2" where as the drawing shows 9 1/4". That's pretty much the only difference. I made this change as that is how my vette cross member measured up and felt that I should duplicate what my parts came off of.

Also, the bolt spacing on the UCA mount is different on the 84-87 than it is on the 88-96. I have pdf templates of the UCA mount with the bolt spacing for 88-96. You will be good to go there. I also have pdf's of the rack mounts and upper shock mounts. I changed the upper shock mounts quite a bit as I made them to accommodate a certain length of shock and angle.

Re: 1952 Chevy Vette Roadmaster LT1 Farm Truck Build

Don't know why some are rotated.

That should get you started but definitely measure your stock cross member your C4 parts came off of. Take tons of pictures before you take it apart. Especially the location and number of shims on the UCA. Then throw the cross member on your work bench and start comparing measurements.

Hope this helps you out.
