Re: My new mistress! 68 GMC longbed
Now that I'm driving my truck around I decided to clean the rear end. After scraping off about 10 pounds of crud I found this tag that shows the gear ratio
Why can't all rear end gear ratios be this easy to find.

Re: My new mistress! 68 GMC longbed
The rolling restoration of my cut down truck is going good for the most part. Right now I am having issues with the battery & charging system. Since nothing on this truck was ever replaced, as I drive it, different parts keep breaking down. But it's all part of the fun right!

Re: My new mistress! 68 GMC longbed
As a mechanical engineer that works with machined and welded structures regularly I urge you to add a doubler to the frame where you welded the two pieces together. Mild steel is only 85% as strong at a weld compared to the parent material. Additionally, frames are work hardened but that added strength is lost during the welding process. That's why there are so many rivets on these frames, welding is much easier but you lose the strength. Taking into account impurities inherent to welding and failure becomes a high possibility. Just trying to help a truck buddy

Re: My new mistress! 68 GMC longbed
Thanks, Jared! I agree.
We are planning to add doubler plates, I just haven't hauled my welder back over to my dad's yet.
