'65 GMC project- question if/what Chevy parts(need cab, doors, hood)

I am restoring a '65 GMC 1/2 ton short bed/step side, I need a new cab, hood, and doors. I have read that between these '60-'66 or '63-'66 GMC and Chevy trucks some parts are interchangeable. So I found a '66 Chevy 1/2 ton that has good doors, cab, and hood. From what I have found is the hood lights are shaped differently, the chevy's hood lights are squared while GMC is slanted in the middle. Also the gauges are different in the cab, and nothing that I have found eith the doors seem to match. Also s guy told me the Chevy cab mounts to my GMC frame might be different but he said he wasn't sure. Before I buy these just want to make sure that I can use these '66 Chevy parts for my '65 GMC. Suppose to go pick these parts up either tomorrow or Tuesday so any help or some helpful links will be very appretiated
Thank you

Pretty much NOTHING is interchangeable without modification. Restore a GMC with a GMC parts truck and restore a chevy with a chevy parts truck. Own a few myself and they are different.

Re: '65 GMC project- question if/what Chevy parts(need cab, doors, hood)

I have been looking for a cab and hood for a good while now and if I find one they won't ship. Now I'm getting down to where I need to get it in paint and body to stay on schedule with this project. I've just read that the doors and cab will work, just the dash gauges will be different, and the hood is the same and can be used just is a little different lights on the hood. I found this '66 Chevy only 2 hours away from me and for $900 I get the whole truck. I've heard and read mostly that what I am trying to do will work and a couple people have said it won't so if anyone else out there has done anything like this or knows please please let me know

Chevy hood Will bolt on...but the style is different....the front fenders are different....the cab is different as far as the style of the dash(including gauges) and possibly how the cab mounts, even the door are slightly different sometimes. Even though GMC and Chevy are considered "the same" they are brothers with different tastes and Not twins by any means. lol $900 for a whole truck is a good deal anyway. Modifications can be done to make stuff work but your gonna have one out of place truck with a bunch of chevy and gmc parts. You might be able to cut the dash out of your GMC and put it in the chevy cab...also with a different cab you have vin numbers to deal with.

Re: '65 GMC project- question if/what Chevy parts(need cab, doors, hood)

Yea well the cab, doors, and hood from the original truck is rusted and dented to crap. We are only doing this truck for my business partners father-in-law, we found the truck and we are restoring it back for him as a surprise. If this is something I would be restoring and trying to sell for profit, I probably wouldn't be trying with the Chevy cab, doors, and hood. He's sick so we are trying to get it knocked out as soon as possible. I've searched looking for the cab and hood and everytime I find one the seller doesn't want to ship it which would still be a lot of money to ship. I live in Texas and I'll drive to go get these parts if anyone can shoot me in the right direction of anyone here in Texas or surrounding states even that might have these parts. Luckily I found a good clean grill off eBay I already have. Please help if anyone has or knows anyone here around Texas with these parts.
Thanks

Re: '65 GMC project- question if/what Chevy parts(need cab, doors, hood)

You can use the chevy cab and door. Drill spot welds and remove dash. and change it to GMC dash. not hard. But the VIN will show it to now be a chevy title. Your choice there. I'm not going to tell you how to fix that. Not good to be found messing with VIN numbers.

Find a GMC hood. Chevy hoods don't belong on a GMC in my oppinion. I have one but it is a little ruff. Not rusted just a few good dents in front corners and a couple bullet holes.

My truck has chevy fenders and grill suport. there is no differants other then one hole for mounting the grill you will need to drill.
