Do C20's come with 6 or 8 lug? Or can they come in either combo?

Re: C20 6 lug....8 lug???? what's the deal

To my best recollection it was 1988 when you could first buy a 6 lug 3/4 ton. When that style and series started there was 2 different 3/4's to be had the "light" duty 3/4 ton had a GVW of 7200 lbs and the rpo code C6P was the good 'ol 8 lugger truck but the GVW was 8600 lbs. At that time the "light" 3/4 shared a LOT of suspension and frame stuff as the half ton[If I remember that GVW was 5600 and like 6200LBS depending on the spring packs and suspension ordered]. Now the C6P truck or heavy duty 3/4 ton shared a little bit of frame and suspension stuff with the one ton truck [single wheel]. But all of this is going off memory of when I was building a bunch of these and I did do a lot of them. 3/4 tons and plain 4.3 WT trucks were what I was drawn to at the sales as I told my dad I have sold every one I ever bought. In the farming town I'm in they were more popular with the farmers as they would by them from me instead of the new car store as their farmhands would just trash them anyway. They really loved they could buy a current or one year old truck for half the money of a new one that might not last 2 to 3 seasons on the farm anyway. I had a "new truck given to me once by a farmer that was really rough on his stuff, he had it pushed off in a huge ditch that was dry but overflow from the MS river it had 16,000miles[this was a long time ago] it was a 86 model and when he told me I could have it he called me back and said I could not cause he found out he had not put tags on it or even made a payment yet. That was a different time then they take a "little "better care of them now. Jim

A c-20 would be 8 lug. Someone changed it or you have the wrong fender badges.

Wouldn't be the first time someone changed to 1/2 ton running gear. Should be less expensive, easier to find, and a softer ride if you swapped the springs too.

Tell us your VINs - Frame vs Cab vs SPID and that will probably tell the tale. Dealer would not have done that - as stated above, someone may have put 6 lug on it, not much point to that (5 lug is a common conversion for the wheel selection) but odds are that it's a 1/2 ton with a 20 badge. But no way to know til we see the VINs. Could be a frame/body swap of what was originally a 3/4 ton truck to a 1/2 ton chassis - that is more common than front and rear axle/hub conversions.

Re: C20 6 lug....8 lug???? what's the deal

Either the axle and spindles were changed or the emblems were changed. it's a C/20 if the third digit in your VIN is a 2 and if it's a C/10 that digit will be a 1.

Re: C20 6 lug....8 lug???? what's the deal

Up through 70 the 1/2 tons were 6 lug. In 71 when the disc brakes came out, they went to 5 lug. (4x4 were still 6 lug)

Re: C20 6 lug....8 lug???? what's the deal

So if I was to go to 6 lugs on my 81 K20 all I would have to do is swap out the diffs to the 1/2 ton running gear? I really like the way older Chevy's look with the 15 inch rally rims.

Re: C20 6 lug....8 lug???? what's the deal

Here you are wrong There was such a thing called Big 10 which stood for heavy haft ton.

In 1973--85 you could buy a Chevy truck with a 5 lug disc in the front and the 3/4 ton in the back I've junked a few of them here in calif.

They where called BIG 10's.Never seen any of them in 1960--72
