Reducing unwanted heat in cab

I have a 67 with factory air, not presently working, but the heater core is throwing off a lot of heat. The floor has been insulated with dynomat and it is staying cool.

How have you guys/girls dealt with this?

Insulate the outside of the heater box?

Put a valve in the heater hose by the manifold to turn off the fluid?

Does the vintage air system work better for heat than the stock system?

I am putting a serpentine system on the truck to get rid of the drive belts. So I am open to options.

Truck is a 67 with a 502 big block with headers. Currently I have about 10 to 15 inches of vacuum at idle.

Did you check to see if the flap valve on the box is shut when the temp control lever is all the way closed?

Re: Reducing unwanted heat in cab

I'm experiencing the same thing. I have an ac truck but half the components are gone. There is not an off position on the switches it just says fan at the top and high at the bottom. Is there a away to stop the air from coming in from the engine compartment without compromising my heater ( I'd like to still be able to use it if I ever need defrost or in the winter)

No, I have not, but that is a good suggestion. Will check that out. Thanks.

Re: Reducing unwanted heat in cab

Wish my 67 had factory air. No carpet kit or floor insulation. It is soooo freaking hot in the summertime. Is it pretty common to eliminate the heater core circulation for the summer? That would probably help with heat a little.

Re: Reducing unwanted heat in cab

The A/C in my truck had been converted to 134A when I bought it and the ball valve lever was on it already. It works well cutting the hot rad fluid from going through the heater core in summer.

Re: Reducing unwanted heat in cab

Same here on my 67 im gonna try the valve to isolate heater core but I think some of the heat is just heat from around the engine ,, mine with the underdash AC will freeze u driving slow but at 55 or 60 you get a bit of heat blowing in some how

Re: Reducing unwanted heat in cab

My truck is missing the compressor and bracket and the lines that go to the bracket. I'm considering doing an ac delete panel( but keeping everything) and on day doing vintage air. Has anyone done the delete panel? Do you think it would help? Mine as soon as I start driving hot air just blows in. Is there a valve that's open that I can shut and if so where is it?
