I have 2 different top hold down brackets is it a year thing?

I was going through my brackets to find a nice set and realized I had 2 different kinds.

I have a 72 double wall and it has the ones with the notches cut out on it.

Mine is a 70 double wall, and no notches. Part # 3980064
If you notice on my part, there's a wear mark where the notch is supposed to be located. I'm thinking GM modified the part for later years because of interference issues with the latch. Probably caused an annoying squeak !

Mine is a 72 , single wall. Has notches.

I couldn't wait so I scrapped the paint off the funny part is the part numbers are backwards from the one's with notches LOL

Nice pick up. I think it's documented some 69 K5s didn't use these brackets at all. Two styles of tailgate strips too. Lot's of little idiosyncrasies.

I completely agree with this. That wear mark can be seen on the set of brackets shown in this thread.
