Wood bed ?s

Anybody ever flip the cross sills upside down (like positioned for a steel bed floor) and put the wood-to-sill-to-frame bolts just through the sill and frame, eliminating the holes in the wood? I guess just trying to go for a hidden bolt type look.

Re: Wood bed ?s

I welded the bolts to the cross sills then cut the heads off the bolts and rewelded the tops. This eliminates the bolts going through the wood. I got the idea from a thread I read about doing this type of modification. If you search you might find it. Here is my bed as I was assembling it.

Exactly like that. Did you flip the cross sills over?

Re: Wood bed ?s

the sills have plate that slides over them to align with the bolts and sit on the frame, i just got them where i needed them and welded them to the sills.

Re: Wood bed ?s

Cause I can't justify paying 3-400 for bed strips and another 3-400 for wood. I welded the holes shut on the original strip then welded a bolt on the back side. I'm going to use two sheets of maple plywood for the wood.

Re: Wood bed ?s

Hmmmm I'm seeing some pretty good stuff here, but I think I'm going to try to flip the cross sills over and see how it works. I'm not too worried about the bed strips having bolts through them. I'll see how everything works out when I put my bed together in a couple of weeks
