How do I reduce barn door in wind tunnel noise?

Drove The Green Barge to Phoenix last week. Had a head wind, windows down, almost slowest vehicle on the freeway. Will removing the RV mirrors stop the jet fighter taking off noise?

Re: How do I reduce barn door in wind tunnel noise?

A very good question!

My truck isn't yet back together but both my car and my dad's 2005 GMC have the plastic "vent covers," or whatever those are called, on the doors to allow the windows to be rolled down a bit and rain not come in.

Those are noisy on both vehicles. A friend had a kayak rack on top of his car and it was very noisy, even with the windows up. I suspect anything on the sides of a vehicle is going to be noisy.

*My truck is so slow, that at 65 MPH you can actually see the fuel hand go down! When I get it running, I plan to stay off interstates as much as possible, any lengthy drive will be on state and US "routes" only.

Older vehicles make way more wind noise.

Re: How do I reduce barn door in wind tunnel noise?

Just went through tracking down a wind tunnel noise on my new DD this week, I drive about 50 miles daily on highway took me 3 days to track down this noise

ended up being air traveling through the hood springs so I filled them up with some foam the type used for insulating pipes. did the trick no more noise

I have this little knob on my dash, and if I turn it far enough to the right, I no longer hear the wind noise

Thanks for playing. LOL

I'm just spoiled being able to cruise at 100+ MPH in the MINI.

But I am serious about ditching the Dumbo mirrors, even thought the SPID lists them.

I doubt anything will change. These rigs have as much wind drag as trailer in a tornado.

Re: How do I reduce barn door in wind tunnel noise?

I just made some huge steps on noise with mine. I use FatMat on the floor, and firewall, as well as made sure I had every hole in the firewall plugged. A little door adjustment and its pretty quiet at 55!

Re: How do I reduce barn door in wind tunnel noise?

Do any of you guys have much noise coming from the vent windows? My vent windows are VERY noisy! These are new aftermarket doors but I am guessing the actual vent window seals are a poor fit.

I know right? Great to have the area of view, but when it's vibrating it doesn't really work. LOL Much like hearing the sloshing gas in the tank behind the seat.

Ditto on driving something else.
