Re: Let See Some Factory Cheyenne Super's

Here's mine. Had for about 20 years. 168K miles. 402, tilt and back slider all factory.

After many PCSs and a couple of deployments, FINALLY, getting around to getting her going. The black paint is factory, as is the top, but the white sides were repainted at some point and need it again.

After chasing an electrical gremlin regarding the starter, yesterday, I did get her to turn over and run when I put gas in the carb. That's the good news. Bad news is...well, there really isn't any. As long as I'm making progress, albeit, slowly, then its all good. New fuel tank ordered today, so, we should be back on the road sometime next week.

Plans are to repaint the white, redo the interior and do some serious detail work, because my days of dismantling trucks are long gone.

Re: Let See Some Factory Cheyenne Super's

Thanks. It's a beauty. Was well taken care of by PO. To hear her fire yesterday and run for few seconds was the highlight of my weekend.

Funny, some things...the upper bed chrome had been screwed on at various places w/the screw heads showing. PO saw that it was loose, drilled holes and screwed it on. Problem solved!! They did things differently back then, I guess.

Anyway, not a show winner and needs a little body work, but will turn heads when done.

Re: Let See Some Factory Cheyenne Super's

Hello everyone. I've just joined and have been browsing the forum. I've just acquired a 1971 Cheyenne Super. I am the second and fourth owner of the truck. I bought it back from the person I originally sold it to 25 years ago! I was 21 years old the first time I owned it and I'm 46 now. Hopefully, I'll get some pictures on this thread along with the SPID label.

By the way, These are some awesome trucks in this thread!

I bought it back to restore in the future. I have another project in the works right now though. I have the original air cleaner and carb that came on the truck.

Additional images.

That's a registration paper from when I previously owned it back in 1989. The guy still had it in the glove box along with the rest of the stuff.

Funny to me that depending *who* was working at the Chevrolet plant (at the time the SPID labels were printed) that some option codes were worded differently. Such as the *L47 400 CU IN V8 ENG* or it could be *L47 396 CU IN V8 ENG* for the same year truck. The same goes for paint description.

Not so much a matter of "who" as "where" and "when" a SPID was printed up. There are numerous variations between plants and years and often variations within the MY for specific plants. Often they carried over from an earlier year then modified if required. As I always recommend start with the RPO option code first, the description is just added information. In fact more than a few SPIDs during the 67-72 years are missing some descriptions all together on a few lines.

What do you see as paint variations? Actually they are about the most consistent of descriptions. The code indicates the color and if a Two-Tone the secondary color and placement/s.
This should get you up to speed on Two-Tones.

I'd love to start with a Longhorn that nice. How much are they asking for it?

I built this one while I was stationed at FT Bliss in El Paso. Sold it at Barrett Jacksons in Scottsdale. Buyer was from Canada.

Cool. It never ceases to amaze me, though, on the combination of options on these old trucks...no power brakes or A/C, but has the Cheyenne Super package and factory AM/FM. Who'd a thunk.......

Its important to remember 71-72 CK20s and C30s included power brakes, they were optional only on C10. When a C10 was ordered with the heavier options like A/C or a 400 power brakes were a required option.

I'll play along to. My 72 Cheyenne super Yuma yellow and white factory color, factory BB now replaced with a 427, AC and all the wood grain trim. Gotta love these trucks!
