best way to remove old drip rail seam sealer

I've read dozens of threads on how to apply seam sealer, havnt seen much on best way to remove old cracked sealer? I have a heat gun, would heating it up aid in picking it out or should I chisel out and use brass wire wheel?

Thanks.

Hi Nevada,
I found my old seam sealer came out easy with an old flat baled screwdriver and then wire wheel with my drill. Cleaned right up no problems. Just don't dig to aggressively with the screwdriver or chisel and it shouldn't score the metal.

That's pretty much what I did too. Found a fair amount of bare metal but I primered & painted before the seam sealer.

most of mine fell out...I used elbow grease on the rest, took it right off.
Wire brushed, POR 15, and 2k seam sealer.....should be good for another 45 years?

Re: best way to remove old drip rail seam sealer

I used a wire wheel in a cordless drill. It all came right out.

I used a little hand held sand blaster. Cleaned it out and was ready for primer.
