Throttle Solenoid
Gurus:
What is the purpose of a Throttle Solenoid? I just replaced my old Quad, with an Edelbrock Q-jet Replacement. Timings fine, Runs great, Idles inconsistently. Mechanic friend said I need a "Throttle Solenoid" to keep it from sometimes dying at a stoplight, or when I run the A/C. Is this correct? Thanks in advance. J P.S. Josh, nice new look!

Idle soleniods were used to maintain a good idle speed when the AC is on. It is not used when the ac is off. The part about dying at a stoplight wouldnt be true. It's only there to counter act the load of the a/c at idle.

they are also great to have even if you have no A/C, you can use them to set your idle speed with, and whne you shut the key off the solenoid deengerizes and will make the carb throttle blades shut further than normal and wil always prevent dieseling/run on whixh can damage the engine big time,.
