Steering shaft upgrade: how can I tell what year column I have?

I have a '73 C20. I swapped the steering column and everything above the rag joint a while ago because of problems with the ignition linkage.

My impression is that you can only do the XJ shaft on later square bodies. Is there an easy way to tell if my column is newer?

with that single bolt going thru it, looks like you can do the xj shaft on it. not sure if your steering box will be the right spline though.

The writeups I saw said that all squares have the same steering box splines so I think it should work.

Steering box is not the same. I have a 74’ and the XJ shaft won’t fit my box
