Your guess on what these holes were for - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I bought another 67. This one is a C20. Any ideas on what someone may have used these holes for? They don’t go through to the inside of the cab. They are on the right side.

If they're only on one side I'm thinking maybe to mount some sort of light for camping or working on something in the dark. Just a guess. People put a lot of crazy stuff on their trucks back in the day. Could be anything.

There are holes in the side of the bed at the center stake pocket. I am thinking ladder rack also.

If the holes don't go all the way through what good are they? It couldn't be a CB antenna then you couldn't tighten it up and it would flop all over the place plus how would the cable get to the radio? Pipe rack it wouldn't do much good either without being able to tighten it up to support the rack.
I have no idea's why they are there. Maybe a start of a project then he think's of a better way maybe. Maybe a OH crap idea gone wrong!

Ladder and lumber racks do not attach to the cab, it would tie them together.

They were for the first 6" Crome exhaust stack. He was ahead of his time.

I had a hole just like this in the center of my roof that had a CB antenna on it. It didn't go all the way through. The CB antenna dropped down in the hole after you fished the cable through, and then a nut tightened down on the antenna spread out some tines on the base and clamped it in the hole.
The cable was fished back to area by the bed light in my case. There's a gap between the inner and outer roof for the cable to run.

That is the only one I've ever herd of before that mounted like that. I ran CB's in my older trucks for years and I never saw one like it before. I used magnet ones are the ones you drill all the way threw. As far as fishing that cable through the roof between the two panels I have tried doing this with small wires and it's next to impossible to do it and sir I have tried believe me I have. If you got that CB cable through there you are a magician.

I'm not going to get into an argument over it, for sure, but check this picture out. It's a little blurry, but you can see the base of the antenna on the roof just over my (much younger) head. I'm going to have ask you to trust me that the hole did not go all the way through.

My K20 was originally a brush truck for a fire department. It had a radio antenna mount on the roof that was a brass bushing about 1" across and maybe 1/8" thick. The antenna screwed into the base. The antenna was gone when I bought it but the cable was still zipped tied up at the back of the cab near the fuel filler (inside)

My truck has one of these antenna mounts too. There is no corresponding hole in the inner roof panel.

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
