lowering advice
Good evening. I'm new here, and hoping to get a little advice/input from folks. I just purchased this '68 Chevy. It seems as though the rear has been lowered a bit already, but I want to lower the front to create a better stance.
The wheels/tires are 22". What is the best way to lower the front, and how much would you suggest lowering it? I'm also looking for advice on spacer size on the back to bring the tires out a little. Thanks so much, Rod |

Re: lowering advice
To lower it on the cheap, you could cut a coil off the front springs. I wouldn't recommend heating the springs, the ring rate will be gone and its bounce all over hell and back.

Re: lowering advice
Just make sure there’s some travel I’ve had to raise mine as the rear axle was flat against the bump stops! Not comfy.

Re: lowering advice
One thing I learned the hard way. Do not assume getting say 1" lowering springs that your truck will actually lower 1". These old springs have lost a lot over 40 years and are not sitting where they were when built. I got 1" front lowering springs and the truck sat 1/2" higher after I installed them. I ended up cutting the stock springs 1/2 coil to get the stance I wanted.

Re: lowering advice
Use the drop spindles to get your first 2-1/2" inches of drop. That way your steering and suspension geometry remains the same. I used the drop spindles with 1/2 a coil cut off the factory springs to get the clearance for 15x8 Rally's with BFG 275-60R/15's. A front sway bar helps tremendously in maintaining clearance for the taller wider meats up front in the turns...PS. There use to be a guy right there in Meriden Kansas that sold all kinds of 67 - 72 truck parts. His name is Randy, "Teeitup" is his board name...

Re: lowering advice
Thank you all for the advice, I really appreciate it. Any thoughts on spacers to move the rear tires out farther?

Get an adjustable track bar to be able to keep them centered.

These kind of questions always seem odd to me.
YOU have the truck in your possession and the wheels bolted on in front of you. YOU have the best advantage to answer that question more than anyone on here. Take a tape measure out there and see how much YOU would like to move the rear wheels out. Then buy that size spacer. I think most 6x5.5 bolt pattern spacers can be ordered in 1/4-1/2 inch increments starting with 1” being the narrowest. Just my late night, tired at work, opinion.
