Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

Has anyone installed this linkage or the similar product from Lokar and if so did it take the sloppiness out of your column shifter?
I think my linkage at the trans was homemade and it is extremely sloppy at the column.
I am hoping that this might do the trick in place of a new column.
Thanks for any guidance

Re: Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

I used this on my first '68 when I put in a 700R4. Worked perfect and no slop was experienced. Going to do this on my current one even with the stock TH400, just so I can get rid of the frame mount setup.

Now if your column is worn out and has a bunch of slop, you'll still need to correct that.

I used Kugel Komponents (same as Lokar, less expensive) worked perfectly.

Re: Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

It is adjustable, can be dialed in to a 350, 400, 700R4, etc.

Re: Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

Alright guys, you got my attention!
On my 72 with tilt column I replaced the original TH350 with a 700R4.
Installed a new 4 speed indicator (pointer) window on the column with the original linkage.

I was always told to accept the fact that the pointer (gear indicator) would be off/misaligned with the new 700R4 upgrade.

Will these linkage kits correct this misalignment of the pointer more accurately?

chevy mike stated with his 700R4, that slop in the column will play a factor.
My tilt column has always worked well and is in great shape.
If needed, does the column need to be disassembled to correct any internal slop for the indicator?
Thanks everyone

Re: Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

By adjusting the distance from the shift shaft on the trans to the rod that comes up to the column I was able to make all the positions line up with the indicator.

Re: Kugal Automatic Shift Linkage

Hopefully this is not too off topic but I think it is related..

When I replaced my cab rubber mounts I was a little worried about stressing the TH350 automatic shifter linkage on my 1970 C10 during the installation - I debated unhooking it - but then I just decided to put the selector in neutral and monitored the slop in the linkage as I slowly jacked up the cab enough to slip the new rubber cab mounts in - it was only about an inch or so.

Anyway I suspect there is so much slop in these auto shifter linkages because the cab (where of course the shift lever happens to be) is on those rubber mounts and the cab must be free to move relative to the transmission and chassis mounts and as the mounts flex - up to say 3/4 of an inch or so in all directions - you wouldn't want the shifter to go into reverse when you go over a whoop-de-do

But still I do think it would be a major improvement to eliminate the slop and make the selector feel more definite.. like a Jaguar?
