Engine removal
I'm getting ready to pull the engine, 350 and trans, 350 from my 77 square. I'd like to pull them as one unit but it looks like there's not enough clearance at the fire wall to raise it enough to clear the clam shell motor mount. I'm thinking I can unbolt the whole mount assembly from the cross member and slide everything forward to gain the clearance. I've got all the sheet metal removed so it's wide open in front.
Any tips or tricks to make this a little easier will be welcomed.

Re: Engine removal
Unbolt the mount from the frame, probably have to be replaced anyways. You can always loosen the trans cross member and slide it back to give the assy more tilt and make a bigger mess on the floor. I always pull them separately myself

Re: Engine removal
These sure make things easier:
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g1021 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fti-f12005 If it's a 2wd, drop the cross member, remove the radiator and the fan. Plug the tail shaft, It should come right out. If it's a 4x4 separate engine and trans or remove the transfer case.

Re: Engine removal
Pull the distributor first. Make sure that little oil tube is disconnected next to the dizzy if you have a mechanical oil gauge. I think I did move the transmission x-member but that does make replacing the trans mount simple. With all the sheet metal gone, should come out pretty easy. I left the core support in place when I pulled my 350/TH350 combo out.
2nd the suggestion on the engine leveler. |

Re: Engine removal
I was able to get the eng. and trans out as one unit by removing the trans xmember and tilting the rear down and raising the front up over the motor mounts. I had all the front sheet metal removed. Thanks for the advice fellas.

Re: Engine removal
Remove the carb, an use a lift plate bolted to the intake manifold carb flange and yank the whole thing out together. EZPZ
