upper steering column guts
I have been reading & searching for the last few hours on here trying to find the answers. Bought a supposedly "rebuilt" column & have had nothing but trouble. Replacing the OE steering wheel with a aftermarket Grant Classic and nothing seems to be going together quiet right. I thankfully kept the original '72 column and found this housing/bearing the opposite direction in each of them.
1. How is the bearing supposed to be positioned? 2. Also, am I missing a spacer that goes on the shaft? Was watching a Brothers video & it looks like a spacer on his & I don't have this on my current or old column. 2a. If there Is a missing spacer, does anybody happen to have dimensions of it so we can make one tonight without waiting days if ordered?

See if this thread helps you (post 4 has a good diagram): https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=630848
In your first pic, the bearing is on the wrong side.

Re: upper steering column guts
Do you have a tilt column or non-tilt? The photos with the orange dash in the background are of a tilt column, so that might be why it looks different from yours.

Re: upper steering column guts
In the 1st picture you have the bearing on the bottom and it should be on the top
