Where to get 12VDC wire for electric choke?

I just put a new 2 barrel carb. with electric choke on my 79 C10. It had a hot air choke on the old original carb. I have got to find me a switched wire for the choke. Where would be the best place to look for a wire under the hood. Without having to run a wire through the fire wall and find one inside cab.

Re: Where to get 12VDC wire for electric choke?

I'm not sure about all the wiring specifics on a 79, but on my 63, I added an electric choke. I have it wired up with a relay so that the electric choke only functions when the engine is running. I used one of the wires off my alternator, but I'll have to go back and look as it's been a couple years since I did it. It has worked nicely for me

Not on my truck but I ran a wire from the fuse block ignition plug .

Any switched source should be fine except the wire going to the distributor.

Might see if there is a spare wire back where the oil sender normally sits, next to the distributor. On vehicles with electric choke, the choke wire often went though one side of the electric oil sender so the choke coil only got power when there was oil pressure. Might get lucky and the vehicle is already setup for electric even if it came OEM with a hot air version.

Re: Where to get 12VDC wire for electric choke?

I would check the fuse box to see if the choke option was hooked up, some time the choke option is on the fuse panel is dead other time it is live on one side you can tap in there.** use the proper fuse size on a spade tap fused wire to the carb. ( if your lucky your truck was hooked up wire was run not used it wrapped in the loom. But if was hooked the wire fire wall was not run you just read above wiring on the engine wire plug connector seal it up pop in fuse in factory fuse holder (choke location) your golden.

Re: Where to get 12VDC wire for electric choke?

You could use an oil pressure switch like the TBI systems have for the fuel pump power.
That way it only powers up when the engine is running.

The carbureted ones work the same way, according to the wiring diagram.
