Radiator questions

Hello all

Well, I hit a bit of a snag and its being caused by a bad radiator. I was wondering what would be a good place/website to get a new one from? I'd prefer an original automatic copper style, but I've heard of aluminum ones that look original as well. If true, where would I find them as well? Also, what is the correct size radiator for a 1967 chevy c10 with a 283? Mines not original and I just want to be sure.

Thank you to all who reply

Jack

Re: Radiator questions

Pro's, Con's and personal opinions for all brands out there. I have been running Champions for years with never a failure, I am currently running 3, one is almost 20 years old now.

I put one in Otis my avatar about 3 years ago, I haul loads, pull trailers and run my A/C all at the same time on hot days. I opted for the guaranteed to cool 1000 hp pkg. I got no where even close to 1000 hp but I got lots of cooling.

Re: Radiator questions

There are a few 1000HP packages out there for reasonable cost. You almost can't over do a cooling system as the Tstat will manage need. The more capacity available simply allows for future options not thought of today. Correctly done, either system, stock or aftermarket will support normal use. If you start hot rodding or placing a moose motor in there for towing, than you may be forced into the aftermarket for needed capacity. That said, the look of an original style system, properly working, in a older truck is impressive.

Re: Radiator questions

I'm using a Champion CC369 in my 67 with a 350 . The lower passenger side saddle mount had to be moved over but the 67 core support is already drilled to move it over , Fit perfect ,advertised to cool up to 800 hp ! way more than I ever need ,

Re: Radiator questions

I’m running the same one as Grumpy. With the HO350. But went with dual electric fans.
One operates under normal conditions, the second kicks on with the a/c. Went electric because I went with a serpentine set up.

Re: Radiator questions

Have a rebuilt engine going into my truck and kept it old school looking like the truck. Couldn't make up my mind whether to get an aluminum or get the original redone. My truck has factory A/C that works so decided to get original redone. It was a 3 row rad with 4 row tanks. Had new 4 row core installed on the original tanks. Not the cheapest way to go but was best option for me.

Re: Radiator questions

I’ve used several Champion radiators and no problems. I have one in my 68 now and it’s been in there about 7 years.

Re: Radiator questions

The aluminum radiator I ordered was a China POS and although it was advertised to fit the C10 it would not. I would have had to re-drilled the core support, which I refused to do.
I concur with Already Gone;
I also prefer the black, stock look, not the raw aluminum look.
I ended up purchasing a made in the USA aluminum radiator. At it was powder coated black.
Your motor could be cooled by the smallest radiator GM made for the C10. Add a shroud if you don't already have one.
I would go stock. Then the stock hoses fit and tracking something down that does isn't an issue. Since you don't have an original re-coring isn't an option. Check with NAPA. They are a direct dealer for radiators and typically have the best price. Added benefit of no shipping. I'm assuming you don't have air and don't live in a hot part of the country. A large radiator is likely a waste of funds.
Cheers.

You know I always forget about NAPA, I'll have to stop by and ask.

Re: Radiator questions

old school for me too.i build my own rads and did this one for my big block 72 with A/C.i'm sure there are aftermarket rads that fit and do ok but i haven't been impressed with any i've seen.mine is a 3 row core in the original tanks that will accomodate a 3 or 4 row core and is exactly like the factory rad.it turns out my original rad wasn't in bad shape but dropping it on the corner of my welder ruined the core so i had to replace it.i hate it when that happens?
