Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
Going to try and update the thread for progress. Truck is in decent shape but we're going to be doing a few things. My father has owned this truck since 94. He's basically just driven it. And maintained it. He's recently been diagnosed with ALS so we wanted to "update" the truck and get it back to its former glory. Here are a few before pics.. We are hoping to get it back together in about a month. We've made a few changes so far. New suspension. New wheels. I'll post what the plan is in the next post

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
Here is the most recent pic, new suspension with wheels.. Still need to add some lowering blocks to get it level.. but the plan is to pull the motor and trans,
new gaskets all around and repaint. Factory style valve covers and air cleaner, powder coat the inner fenders and rad support, new rad support mounts, new cab mounts, paint the firewall, clean and paint frame, new exhaust, new ss brake lines, new rear glass, new radiator with electric fans, 1 wire alternator, new fuel and tranny lines, relocating the battery and gas tank, new weather stripping, new arm rests, tilt column and steering wheel, new hood hinges, respray the bed, install a wood bed, LED headlight, tail lights and side marker lights, new wiring harness, install factory emblems, new headers, new dash pad and swapping out the instrument cluster, new front and rear bumpers. I know I am missing something but thats the bulk. |

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
Love those rat's nests! This truck deserves the going over you're giving it. Getting better all the time

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
So I posted about needing control arms a while back.. Ended up going with one from auto zone.. As you can see. The angle of the arm in the back ground is a little.... Off..

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
You have quite the project, the wiring is always a fun one to tackle. My harness had been hacked into so much over the years I decided to just replace it all.
You're doing great, can't wait to see the transformation of the frame once powder coated. |

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
New harness was definitely a priority. We had originally planned to just clean the frame from the firewall forward and paint it... Next thing you know the whole frame is out from under the truck... Went to the PC'ers today.. Should have it back in a few days to hopefully start putting the truck back together.

Re: Fathers 68 stepside overhaul
Mine was supposed to be a minimal repair (cab corners, rockers, and fix-up the engine) but there was too much needing repair it turned into a frame-off restoration as well.
