Re: Longhorn Club ??

RE; the green 1971 longhorn, thanks for you replys and encouragement. It is a great truck. I went to Idaho to bring it back to New Mexico. That's where dad and mom were living. The truck is automatic (shifter on the column) but it has 3 speeds, drive, L1, L2. The air condition is not factory, but put on by the dealer in 1971-72 and fits under the dash. Still works but I think it had a squeel in it so I turned it off and haven't used it since. The radio is original too, I'm in the process of getting a new antenea fo it. The hubcaps were on the truck when dad passed away and those were the ones i got restored, original to 1971. Hubcaps.com in Calif did the work. $70 each (ouch but they really look great). they were fast and friendly, and I would recommend them. 3 hubcaps were chrome, 1 stainless steel. They undented them all, painted them the original black cog design w/ blue bowtie, and polished them up. The chrome ones really need rechromed, but that's expensive I've heard so i didn't do that. So some of the yellowish metal shows thru at the edges of the old dents. But they really came out great anyway and add a lot to the truck, I'll post pics of the caps as soon as i take some. If you're ever in NM let me know, we'll go cruise!

Re: Longhorn Club ??

JulieJacobs, I think that is one of my favorite trucks on here. Thanks for posting.
That squeel (from the Air-conditioner) may be a very simple belt adjustment. Or if the belt needs replacing, very easy job too. 99% of the time that's what it is. WLH

Re: Longhorn Club ??

thanks workin longhorn. Thanks for appreciating the truck, and you've given me confidence to fire up the AC to see what will happen. Squeeling close to home is ok, not when I'm 1000 miles from home on a road trip though. I don't plan to change anything, but rather take care of what's there. what does "bump" mean? I see it in posts all the time.

Use a "Top Cog" belt. They are made in USA and actually seat in the pulley groove. This will stop your belt squealing problems.

Re: Longhorn Club ??

Can't stand it, I want to show off mine now. I found this baby in Springtown, Texas and it had every single piece of chrome intact and all 4 hubcaps. Couldnt believe it, and he let me have it for $1200. My son and I paid up and drove it home (bout 65 miles). I painted it in a storage building. I just love em'...Keep the pics coming..

Re: Longhorn Club ??

I find myself to be the newest member of the Longhorn Club...

I picked this up in February, after my father's friend past away, from his widow for $3500.

What I know about it;

'70 C30 Longhorn
468cid (supposedly $5000 invested)
ProComp Heads
Mild cace cam
11.5:1 compression
TH400
Roller Rockers
Air gap manifold
est 500hp

and needs a whole lotta fixin. The dash is a mess, some rust in the drip rail and under the doors.

I just bought;
Roll pans
Black Mtn alt bracket
Tank relocation kit
2" primary headers (1 3/4 was too small to cover the ports)

It ran on 6 cylinders when I got it (bad valve adjustment), and I have been slowly tinkering to get it up and going.

I am currently in the market for a bilet PS bracket for BBC SWP.

The plan is to make a "nice work truck", something that can be taken to shows, but still lug junk around.

These didn't fit

Re: Longhorn Club ??

It's beyond me why someone dumps $5000 into a motor and leaves the rest of the truck looking like it hasn't seen a hose in or a garage in 40 years... A little balance might be nice! How 'bout 350 HP and a PAINT JOB!!

Sarcasm aside, I'm sure that'll be a fun truck to tinker with and turn into whatever you want. I have never seen a Longhorn with the aux fuel door in the bed extension piece! Can't decide if I like that or not.

Quite honestly, as I understand, it has never seen a garage.

As for the fuel door, extension seam, handles, trim, emblems, driprails....it all gets welded up soon. This thing is going to be as watertight as a frogs butt.

Re: Longhorn Club ??

"This thread is a Longhorn club get together."

2001,
I bought my Longhorn. Not pretty yet, but it has a new bed, rebuilt 402 bb, new front clip, new cab rubber and seals, passenger door and all kinds of smaller parts from the board from all over the US. Currently, I am installing the new gear box with a new pitman arm, Tach conversion kit, new bed wood kit and new rear bumper. I haven't received it yet, but a new fuel tank. In December I am going to LA and picking up my new seat upholstery, dash pad and over head inside the cab with trim. I have all the new undercarriage bushings and rubber, but still need cab bolts for a 3/4 ton. My future plan is to get a hold of an original complete tool box assembly that has been cut out with extra bed metal and have that installed. In the garage, I have 4 16 inch rims, new tires and a complete set of GMC Stainless hubcaps for it and a modified, custom, pristine black and red set for a unique sharp look. Hope this picture posts. Enjoy
R/

PS. I want you all to know that this is officially the first picture I have ever posted on here. I am stoked.
