I'm not sure but the guy I bought it from was the one planning on tubbing it. He told me he had bought it from the original owner. I didn't ever research it, but his story was the gentleman that had it used it to go back and forth to the grocery store and had it under a carport. Probably why it got the pine needles/leaves in the cowl and wiring gutter that created the rust issue. The pipe is supposedly the original owner's

That truck is great! Impressed with your ministry, too. If I had the ability, that would be something I would like to see here at my church- Huge need, especially in these times. You are on the right track in my opinion with the truck. Keep the rake. It looks like a truck. Use it. Enjoy it! It will settle with a load in it!

brn agn.... awesome work!!! You have really brought the ol' girl back together and made her into a jewel. I personally like the wheel/tire choice, and the drop looks pretty good on the truck. IMO () you can never go low enough....

Awesome work, and thread write up; can't wait to see what's next.

Re: Project Charity Case

brn agn... I'm a little surprised by the rake that's on the truck with the 3.5/5" drop, but then again maybe it's the differing tire sizes which are adding to the rake. Here's a shot of the rake on my '69 with a 4.5/6" drop (complete ECE kit) running 15x7's up front and 15x8's in the rear with 235 75R15's on all four corners. (not my tire choice, I just haven't made my final choice yet.)

72BlckButy, I expected the stance to be similar to your truck. My opinion is that either the front springs are short or the rear springs are taller than they should be. Hmmmm, what to do? Since I am going to use it to move cars occasionally, I think I will leave it as is and see how it does. It is not exactly what I pictured in my head, but it will still work.

Re: Project Charity Case

Your truck looks great the way it is.

This should be required reading for first time buyers. These trucks can hide so many rust issues and people who buy one and didn't know what to look for are always amazed when they ask me what I think about their truck. Lots of them get nice paint on the outside and the supports and hidden areas are gone!

You did your's the right way.

I actually agree with you, if you are planning on using this truck to tow any type of vehicle then I would consider trying it and seeing how much it settles once loaded down.

Either way... top notch work. Wanna sell it now?

And like mentioned above.... time to change you avatar.

Brn agn love the truck. I think it looks perfect the way it is. Heres a pic of mine. it has a 4/6 drop from ece. Minus the the spindles. I made my own dropped a arms. It has 275/60/15 on the back and 255/60/15 on the front.

Re: Project Charity Case

I was able to get a few things accomplished yesterday on the truck. The inside of the gas tank was rusted badly. A previous owner had installed a clear fuel filter prior to the carb and I was constantly cleaning the sediment out of it. So, I found a used gas tank locally. It too had rust in it, but it was not out of control like the stock tank. I used a product from KBS Coatings to clean and seal the second tank. Here is a picture of what the coating looks like when it is cured:

It seems like a decent product. So, yesterday I removed the original tank:

The 3 digit number on the passenger side of the cab caught my eye. I knew I had seen "846" before. That is when I realized that it is also written on the hood:

I assume that this was a sequence number used at the factory?

I installed the new/used tank and took the opportunity to blow out all of the fuel lines. I am pretty certain there was blockage in the line between the sending unit and rubber hose that connects to the fuel line inside the frame.

The fuel gauge has never worked, and I tracked it down to a bad sending unit. The tank that I bought had a working sending unit, so installed it as well. Now, all of the gauges are working. Most of you probably realize that there were two different size fuel lines available in these trucks: 3/8" and 5/16". Since this truck has a 2 barrel carb, it has the smaller 5/16" line. The sending unit I was using had the 3/8" line. I purchased a brass adapter fitting from my local Napa in order to connect the larger sending unit to the smaller lines in the truck. The other option would have been to change my fuel lines over to 3/8", but I was not ready to do that. Here is a shot of the "new" gas tank installed:

The next step is to install the sound deadener and rubber mat.

Re: Project Charity Case

So have you had it on the road since the tank/sending unit swap? How's it running?

I have not had it on the road since the gas tank swap. Once the rubber mat is installed, I will get the seat back in and take it for a spin. It does seem to be starting much better. I adjusted the dwell on the distributor yesterday and it seemed like it runs smoother. I still need to adjust the carb and the timing and it should be running great. Maybe it will be ready for a road trip to Richmond sometime soon!

Re: Project Charity Case

I decided install sound deadener in the truck today. Sound deadener really isn't going to help this truck out that much, because it still needs door seals, a cab corner replaced, etc... However, I want to use sound deadener on a couple of other projects (1974 Nova and 1985 Camaro) and I thought it would be wise to try it out on this truck first. Here are a few pictures:

Fuel tank with the pickup installed and connected:

Jute padding installed:

I should have some pictures of the rubber mat installed tomorrow.

The sound deadener is called, "eDead". I purchased it from eBay. The seller's username is edesignaudio. It is one of the cheaper sound deadeners out there...I'm not sure how well it will work though. It was very forgiving and was easy to apply.
