Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

PB Blaster is pretty good, Deep Creep (I think by Seafoam) is great.

Vinegar works great for de-rusting parts, never thought of trying it for a stuck bolt. By the way, if you soak things in vinegar, you need to have some water & baking soda ready to dip the parts in the kill the acid from the vinegar, then be ready to treat the part with Rust Mort or something - the vinegar strips the metal & it will flash rust very quickly - within minutes.

Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

WD-40 has its place like in the house for squeaky hinges but never had any luck with it on missouri rust. LOL PB Blaster has my vote it works real good. Gotta try the vinegar though, heard of it but never tried it. If GM has something in a can for $8 i would bet anything its made by someone else and sells at walmart or oreillys for $3 a can. Just like orielly brand oil I dont think they have their own refinery. LOL But hey a feller can be wrong.

I'm a fan of Liquid Wrench and a liberal, (Gee I hate that word!), dose of patience! If you can shock the bolt/nut with a hammer tap after applying Penetrant. Al W.

Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

This marine shop down here on the coast sold me this stuff called corrosionX!! This stuff is unbelievable!!! I Had these trailer door hings that were sticking pretty good. used tons of stuff on it PB WD Grease oil everything. I shot it 1 TIME, let it soak for couple minutes and the door flung open and smacked the side of the fender. Now you just unlock it and let go of it and the thing flies open!! Unbelievable stuff. Its worth the 14.95 a can.

PB Blaster works so well and 1 can lasts so long I never think about cost.It just works. The key is juice it up and wait.It and anything else needs time to do it`s stuff. The only instant solution is shocking it (smack with a hammer straight on) and/or heat.Sometimes tightening first helps break a bolt loose, too.

Vinegar is acetic acid which does dissolve rust without attacking the steel underneath but it's SLOW. Muriatic acid is the same acid that's in your stomach except, the pool chemical is a bit more concentrated. Same price as vinegar but Mixed 1 part acid to 5 parts water this stuff eats away the rust like no ones business. Baking soda mixed with water neutralizes it and THEN use whatever penetrating oil you like.

Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

PB Blaster, a torch, and a cheater bar. One or a combination of these 3 things will do the trick.

Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

I have tried a lot of products over the years, and had settled on PB Blaster as being the best. Then I read online (I believe on this forum) about a product called "gibbs". I ordered a couple sample bottles, and WOW! It makes PB Blaster look like plain old water. It works amazingly well. The only problem is, you can't find it in stores. You have to order online, which made me skeptical until I got some.

Re: Best Rust Penetrator?

I use a product this side of the pond called Plus Gas, works well and way better than WD40 although that is better than nothing. Best stuff I've ever used was a can of something called EEzit that was in my dads shed, had to date back to the 1950's as I think it was in the shed when we bought the house in 1970. It had powdered graphite in some very light oil/solvent, one or two drops of that stuff (and it was a squeezy can with a spout not an aerosol) and even the worst bolts undid like they were brand new. Sadly it seems to have gone off the market years ago.

EDIT

This is the stuff, ad is from 1951!
