Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
LT1, do you have the correct nuts that mount the AC box to the firewall?
Could you show me what they look like? I have two styles on mine and can't tell if either one is correct. This pic of yours shows which ones I am referring to. Thanks! Last edited by damnyankee36; 02-23-2019 at 12:08 AM. |

Jon(60-66) would be the guy to answer this, he has an NOS AC kit and will have all the hardware with it new.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
I did look at his "Dealer Installed A/C" thread earlier. No pics of the nuts, but the diagram, along with the AIM, shows what looks like a flange/washer nut. The nuts previously installed were this type of nut and a stamped, (for emblems?) type nut.
I just went to Lowe's and found a couple of free-spinning flange nuts. |

You're saying this is the correct nut?

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
yes it came off a heater box from a 66 C10 i always take bolts screws and washers from trucks when i pull parts, in order to have the correct one and if one is missing then i got to the hardware to match it.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Hmmm, I was gonna assume that this type of nut wouldn't be to bolt on something that heavy. Emblems, maybe.
Guess I'll rethink this again. They are easy to find, however. Thanks for the tip. |

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Winston is correct about the nut. Its more about sealing force than supporting weight since the weight is carried by the studs. Theres also support from the bracket to the dash. Lowes nuts are all wrong for this.

i think its more on this thread to find the factory correct item, because i have a work around. i just like pulling parts and get the item as it came.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
Well , that's why I have "parts trucks" I rarely if ever use store bought fasteners when putting one of these back together in "original" form. I Reuse many original nuts and bolts with the correct head markings and size and simply clean and replate them. Makes a BIG difference when you see any restoration done. My biggest turn off is seeing a restoration and every nut and bolt was bought at the local hardware store , all of your local hardware is now Chinese and is NOT the same thread pitch or diameter most the time. Theres a company that actually makes most of these fasteners exact. Pretty big catalog selection right down the the head markings and GM part numbers if you needed something speciphic. I will try to get that info and post it later. If you're doing a restoration , its worth it , resto mod or modified , who cares.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread
On my 1965 K20, listed next to "Paint" on the kick panel plate are the numbers 80-72367 and 96890. Does anyone know what these numbers mean?

I have searched the numbers and have tried to find a match on every 65 Chevy paint color sheet I could find with no luck.

Usually codes like that are a FLEET color or Government issue . state rescue and such not. What original color is on the truck now?
