Re: You Know You're a Hardcore Chevy/GMC Truck Fanatic When:

when you cry if they play "Like a Rock" in a restaurant.

when, growing up, you would spend your summer vacation with all four family members in a regular cab pickup. A black one. In Arizona. With no A/C. And the dog.

when you spend your summers looking at the vehicle description summary figuring out what options you are going to put on your new truck

when, as a result of the above, you have most of the available option codes and combinations memorized

when you have the VIN formats and model years mostly memorized

when you drove your own truck off the end of the assembly line

when you built your own truck.....twice

When you drive your truck to work every day

and you park next to the head of Chevy Truck marketing

when, on the days you don't drive it, you check on it to make sure everything is ok

when you know more than one truck Chief Engineer

when you've driven in a GMC truck commercial

when you have been building them for almost four decades

I know, not trucks but I gotta share 2 GM Hardcore stories;
Like my buddy "Sal" you constantly use your I-phone to internet access the CCTV camera located inside your garage, just to look at your Black 59 Corvette. Or like my passed on buddy "Lee", they find you dead after a heart attack in your garage, sitting in a chair with your arms draped over the front fenders, hugging your beloved 47 Cadillac. These guys are and were real HARDCORE GM Lovers. Sorry couldn't find a picture of Lee's metallic green Caddy, but here's one of Sal's I took at Skull Valley one day out cruising.

Keith, I started a tear duct response just reading your message, alas I'm all choked up. Me too... on all your lines! My work truck is a beater, flat black '70 C 20, but I love it as she put several cords of wood in folks woodsheds this Summer. Don't know how to put pictures on my name or for my truck yet, will mess with it someday. Benner

You reminded me of one more: I had a friend that demanded we run his ashes through a Chevy big block running at 4000 rpm. We did it, too.

Steve and I worked at the GM Milford Proving Ground together. He was a mechanic through and through, with an affinity for engines and machines of all kinds. The memorial was held at his farm, about an hour north of where I live. The family had asked any of us with "hot rods" to drive them for a small display. I thought it would be fitting for me to drive lil Red, since that's what he and I worked on when we were together. They also had his '67 GTO, his wife's '69 Chevelle (it was her car from before they were married) and his '72 Chevy pickup parked out in the grass.

Many of us heard Steve say, on more than one occasion, "...after I'm gone I want you to run my ashes through a Chevy big block, running at 4000 rpm. I want to see what the inside looks like." He even reiterated with one of his buddies: "you're gonna take care of that, right?"

So - today was the day. At the end of the service they fired up his '72, which has a 396 in it, and ran it up to 4000 rpm, while pouring some of his ashes down the carb throat. I cried a little.

Godspeed my friend. A hot rodder to the very end.

When you wave at another 67-72 chevy truck as you pass them on the road.

When you speed up because a 67-72 chevy truck just passed by and you want to see it more closely

When you spend $30,000 on it to make it pretty and still haul stuff in the bed because "it is a truck, after all"

I have chased other cars/trucks many times to get pictures of them on the road.

I'm there, but with my '68 Buick Skylark California GS. Interestingly, it's my wife who has wanted her dad's truck (in my sig) since he bought it in '73. She needn't have worried, she's an only child. Now that I've retired, I'm starting in on fixing 'im up.

Re: You Know You're a Hardcore Chevy/GMC Truck Fanatic When:

when your wife says, "I don't want to talk about the truck anymore tonight please"

when you don't feel like going anywhere and your wife wants to go shopping so you make her a deal if we can take the truck i'll take you shopping

when you constantly look on ebay and craigslist to make sure you got a good deal on your truck, then you always end up saying it doesn't matter because your NEVER going to sell it

when you look forward to changing the oil and washing the truck

when you always look back as you walk away from your truck after parking it

I could go on and on!

I'm currently sitting on my wife's bedside as she's in labor with our first, reading all these and dreaming about all my "kids". My little girl on the way,my 98,57,and72. Damn good thing my wife's not a member on here to see this or I'd be dead:-) although she's a dang good sport for putting up with my old chevy addiction.
