Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Crossmember modification started today.

Once it's installed, I'll weld in some braces to give it a fighting chance.

Building your own exhaust is a lot more work that you think it is.

But, I like it!

Removed the headpipe to fully weld it. - only 3 welds were done on the truck. Victory lap: ran out of gas and had to get towed back to the ranch....

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Looks great. I just ordered some tail pipes I hope I can use as is or adapt for my truck and need to re-do the front sections a bit to level them out. Hoping I can tie it all together to look good. Wish I had a lift, sure would make it easier.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

I've been slow on updates...

Vortec 350, Edelbrock EFI, 700r-4 all installed.

Battled with a fuel delivery issue for a month before I removed my low pressure carter pump I was using to prime the system - it ended up being a bottleneck at high RPM. Running pretty good now, just tinkering on the computer settings and TV cable linkage to the transmission.

Race Gas is Blue

Return Fuel line plumbed into stock sending unit

Had the trans pressure and fuel pressure gauges ziptied for test drives.

Factory Tach reads really high...

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Completely disassembled and painted the backside of all the front sheetmetal, repaired the fenderwells, installed mostly new bolts and washers and new hood hinges so the sneaky bastage sits down a little better. It's all pretty tight and clean under the hood. Still crusty on the outside

Took the dog out for a cruise a couple of weeks ago. He's a good co-pilot.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

I'm about to pull the trigger on this Spartan Locker. Can anyone verify that all truck 12 bolt axles had 30 spline shafts? I don't really want to yank em just to see and have to re-fill / seal the axle while I wait to receive the locker.

Has anyone installed one of these puppies? I like the idea of installing it in an hour or 2 for under $400 and having a posi. I feel like such a wimp laying hundred foot one wheel stripes.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

Good progress. I've got a lock right in my axle, which is about the same kind of thing. Pretty sure all the truck 12 bolts use the same axles. I know there are different carriers for 3.73 and above, so if you do gear swaps you have to pay attention to that, but the rest is the same.

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

I just replaced the axles on my '67 to 5 lug, and they are 30 spline, and the rear end is original. I too have one wheel drive, and was looking at the Auburn unit. It's a little squirrely under full throttle with one-wheel traction, even with 10 inch rims.

Oops, sorry Mang. Sold those things before you even asked the first time. In fact the whole burb is gone. Made the engine better than free when it was all said and done.

Ordered that locker and some custom steel wheels from summit last night. I hope after tires my last big purchases are over. This truck, like you all know from personal experience, has costed more than it's worth.

I dont' think you can look at worth when building one of these trucks unless your intent is to buy and flip it. Most of us plan to hold onto and enjoy ours for a very long time. The way I see it is I can put a lot of money into an old truck and still be ahead of a newer one with far more miles of smiles in return. JMO
Have you driven it enough yet to get a real good impression of that eldo MPI setup? I'm old school in that I really don't want any electronics on mine but I do like the easy cold startups and clean running of the fi engines.
What wheels have you ordered?

Re: Like I needed another one of these things....

I agree with what you're saying - just stating that I've spent too much.

The EFI is pretty fun. I can def say that a returnless system that's just a throttle body is how I would go if I did it again. Things to note- as you said, cold starts, efficiency, less fumes, more adjustability on the fly, better idle with nasty cams.... EFI is really a lot better now than the system I have but I still like this better than a carb any day. You'll get over the electronics once you install it. Makes it look less scary.
