Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Here's some more pics of the truck after fitment of the hood and doors. It amazes me how poorly these trucks were from the factory. This thing will look sweet when finished though. The bed is also assembled.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Both bedsides are finished and wrapped in primer. Probably be the last pics/posts for a while as I have exhausted my $30k budget and need to save up about $10k to finish the paint and interior. Then I can at least drive it home and park in the garage and save up cash for the glass, wheels and tires, and stereo install. Enjoy! Daniel U

are you going to paint it yourself or have it done professionally. Doing it yourself can save tons of cash

Looks good Daniel! $30k doesn’t last long and I'm sure the $10k you save will be used up quickly too, but when it's all done it will be worth it. Good luck saving the dough!

You could have just bought mine and saved your self some time , . When it's all said and done, you're going to have a nice truck and you can say you did it yourself.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I'm not going to paint it myself. I plan on doing another Chevy truck with my son when he's older. We will learn on it. I want this one done right. Although I haven't done any building on this one, I have learned quite a bit as far as what I like/dislike, and wich shortcuts to take and avoid. Also what companies to use, etc. I know that patience is a virtue that I continue to learn. Anyways, thanks for the compliments. I hope to see you at the Paso show, with or with out the '54. Feel free to PM me if you plan on attending so I can stop by and say "Hi".

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I just got clearance from the wife to use our equity line to finish the truck in the hopes that my OT $ + my raise + my tax return will pay it all off by Sept. I will be on vacation most of Feb. I'll be sure to get some more pics up in about 3 weeks.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

Quick Update: The guy building my truck (Paul Smeltzer of Paul's Mobile Metal Art)got sick last week. He begins work on my truck again Mon. morning. I will get some pics up ASAP. I'm learning patience! I will be porting my TPI intake myself, and get some pics when finished! I've been enjoying watching all of your projects progress.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I still have a small list of parts and accessories to buy. Sometimes it seems never ending. The driveline needs to be resized. I need a cap/rotor/dist./plugs/wires, chrome alternator, chrome PS pump, waterpump, glass, mirrors, a few speakers, wheels/tires, and interior. Oh yeah, it's still not painted!

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

I ordered my rear view mirrors from So-Cal Speed Shop. $120 to my door. They are the ones So. Motor Co. used on thier pick up. I also ordered the Bosch 22 lb. injectors, air runners and throttle body for the TPI. I should have them buy this weekend.

Thanks for the encouraging words Cal. I keep telling myself that. I can't wait until it's at the stage your's is in. Made any more excursions in yours? I can't wait to see it in person.

As soon as they're on for mock up, I'll post pics. The body guy was on vacation and sick, so he's a bit behind the schedule we'd talked about. I got my new 22 lb. Bosch injectors in:

I need some help with a few things. Have any of you retrofit lap style seat belts to your P/U? I'd like to use the GM style that were metal and offered in the mid 70's(to early 80's I believe ). I'm calling "Glide Engineering" tommoro to order my seat. I'm also looking for a fuel cell to mount under the bed where the spare used to be. The problem is that I'm running a TPI intake from an '87 IROC and need an internal fuel pump like the ones found in the later 80's Camaro/Firebirds/Corvettes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Daniel U P.S. Anybody here from Central CA.? I live on the "Central Coast" about 45 min. from Morro Bay. I'd like to hook up sometime if there are any gtg's with Chevy pick up truck clubs. Here's a pic of the day I bought the truck for $1200. I drove it home!

Seat belts metal kind?? Are you talking about Vette lap buckles used in the mid 60's? If so I may have a set. I'll take a picture and post it & you tell me if this is what your after.

esll.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!

esll, I ordered my seat belts through a co. called "Juliano's". Read a bit further into my build thread for the link. Thanks though. On another note, I ordered new runners for my TPI set up through Arizona Speed and Marine. They're 3 weeks out though. I may try to port match the throttle body myself. Anyone with tips on port/polish aluminum? The outside is polished. I'm just afraid of porting the holes too big. Thanks in advance, Daniel U
