Re: My 76

Well, Im bout to give up on the damn floors. Im just not that good of a fabricator to do metal work. And I dont know anyone who does metal work. The way I would end up doing them, they wouldnt last long. For one, I dont know how to get all the rust off the cab frame were the floor is welded too, and there are several other areas that I cant get the rust out of. Two, my floors will look all jacked up and have gaps were I couldnt get the metal to line up at. So guys, I just dont know what I need to do at this time.

Alright, thanks agian. If I can just get the floor done, the rest of the truck is easy.

Re: My 76

Alrighty, I just woke up bout 20 mins ago, so here are the pics GrunMoanCaugh asked for.

This is what Im starting with, got all the rot cut out.

I out the floor pan, lined it up with the rocker(where the curve part meets), here are 3 different pics for ya.

Looking straight down

Looking towards the kicker area

View from the outside

Any help or a walkthrough would help me a TON.

Re: My 76

First off, I suppose, is to clean up the rust on the cab support, that plate, etc. like you mentioned earlier. Maybe scrape off the loose rust and dirt on these parts and use a rust converter on them.
With your floor pan in place (clamp the inner rocker piece to the rocker bottom flange), go underneath and mark where the cab support, floor support and the plate are. Also, mark the flange and the top of the rocker where they meet the inner rocker potion of the floor. Then drill 1/4" holes for plug welds and weld the floor panel in. Pics, to help you see what I mean.....

Re: My 76

Alrighty, I did what you said and marked the supports for the spot welds. I went ahead and cut off the front part where it bends up at since it will be easier for me to just make the with one peice.

Now can I just lap weld these? Or do they have to be butt welded? The reason is cause the floors will be covered by sound mat and carpet when done. And I will one day to a complete frame off restomod on this truck.

Re: My 76

1. Quit cutting your new floor pan. lol
2. Lap welds are fine.
3. I don't see any holes drilled, pics attached. (bottom pic is to show where the lower rocker flange meets the inner rocker part on new floor pan)

Re: My 76

That floor looks good. Before you put sound mat on it and carpet, put a layer of "Lizzard Skin" down to help cut down on heat.
