My 76

I got tired of not having a truck and had the itch to buy one that I could drive. So I sold my 98 Firebird and brought this lovely heap of metal. It is a 1976 Chevy c-10 SWB with a 350 and TH350 trans. I dont know what has been done to the motor, but I got another 350 Im gonna rebuild to put in here later on. I paid $1500 for this truck and drove it 100 miles home with absolutly no problems what so ever. It didnt even suck that much gas, only a quarter tank. Anyway plans are right now to clean the engine bay up. Re-seal some stuff on the motor, along with some other goodies, and make it run even better than before. Anyway, here are some pics when I brought her home.

Now here is what the engine bay looked liked before today, most I know bout the motor is it has headers and is running a Holley double pumper. Dont know the exact specs on the carb.

Re: My 76

Today I started on the first thing that needed some major help, the engine and engine bay. I went out and brought me some goodies for the motor, new Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock Signature series valve covers, Edelbrock breather for valve covers, and a chrome oil dip-stick tube. I already have an Edelbrock 600 CFM 4-barrel with electric choke to go on this monster. I also bought a new water pump and all new gaskets for everything. And yesterday I also brought a complete tune-up for this thing, rotor botton, dist. cap, wires, plugs, and oil change.

Now here is what I started with at 3 PM today.

Re: My 76

I was finishing cleaning the motor up, getting it preped for the new intake and valve covers. I got that done and it was time to start on the firewall. I am gonna clean up what I can get to and paint it. This has wore me out today, I worked on it for 6 hours straight. And no I dont have a black eye, it is just oil.

And for fun, I put all my new stuff side by side to the old stuff, here are the pics of whats going on the truck.

I will post agian tomorrow with more progress. Gonna go get it insured and have the title and tag transfered over tomorrow.

Re: My 76

Yeah it needs floor boards replaced, cab corners, and I need a new bed for it. But for right now it will do. My plans now are get the engine bay finished and take it to the drag strip just to see what it will do.

Re: My 76

Well I have hit a dead stand still. Tuesday I had to go to my doctor for a lump in my throat, got my antibioctics and went home. Well last night my throat swelled almost completly closed and was hurting so bad that I was in tears. My dad gave me one of his pain killers just so I could sleep. I went back to the doctors today and my doc said I got some infection that is very serious and could cause permenant damage. Im going to a specialist tomorrow and they will probally do surgery to drain the infection out before it reaches my brain. My dad has started putting my truck back together for me since I cant really do anything right now, I either start choking on my own saliva or I run out of breath. So thats it for now, I really hope I get better soon, I miss workin on my truck, but honestly, most of all I miss being able to eat stuff other then ice cream lol.

Re: My 76

Well there is some great news from today. I only had to get a shot to get the swelling down, but I also had to give some blood for testing cause no doctor can tell me exactly what it is that is causing the swelling. But other then that, I got the truck back together and drove it around today, best feeling Ive had all week. But Ill get some pics tomorrow. Thanks guys for the comments, really means alot to me

Re: My 76

Alright got some new progress. Had to replace my starter today, not cause he went out but cause he was going to go out soon and I didnt want to be away from my house when it finally did. So got that problem taken care of. I also took everything out the interior to see just how bad the floors are, and I think Im screwed lol. Ive never delt with rust so I will let you people that have judge it, but to me its bad. Anyway, I got some pics of the floors.

And of course, Ive been dieing to get a burnout vid of this truck. So I finally got one today.

Re: My 76

Hmmm..... if you've got access to a MIG welder, not a big deal. What I like about building this style truck is that parts are cheap.
The floor pieces are about $50 a side here and you'll probably need cab mounts as well.
Cool vid but, maybe save your tires now and put that money toward repair panels.

Re: My 76

Yeah I dont spin them that much honestly, Ive gotten a lot better at controlling the throttle on this thing. And on the patch panels I was gonna order them from classic industries unless someone on here has a better place to order them. And yes, I own my own MIG welder. It comes in handy way to often not to have one.

Re: My 76

I was doing some cleaning up and found my old trans out of my 91 I use to have. It has overdrive, since the next thing on my list for this truck after the interior is the motor and trans, would this trans work? I just need to know if its a 700R4, if so I got a friend that owns a trans shop that said he will walk me through the rebuild on it. How do I ID the trans?

Re: My 76

Well, I did a little bit of work tonight. Now it aint done yet so dont criticize it to much yet. I was rushed for time and only had about 2 hours to do all the sanding, cutting, and painting. Plus having to go buy the sand paper and what not. Time was really short. Anyway, I started the body work on the bed tonight, I shaved one of the holes in the bed, and I also took my lenses off an old bed and put them on this one. The reason for that are my old ones were busted and cracked and these aint. So here are the pics, let me know what you think about it so far.

And yes, I did use rattle can primer for now. For the finish product Ill get me some better stuff from the local shop.

Re: My 76

Looks pretty darn good to me.
Not to criticize, but a premixed fiberglass would be better for a first coat of filler over your welded areas to block out any moisture.

Re: My 76

Fiberglass reinforced filler. There's many different brands, I would suggest a short strand for what you are doing.
Wherever you're getting your body supplies should have it. A quart size should be enough.
