Yes, the stock sending unit works with the gauges. I think (just of the top of my head) it's a pink & black wire. Check the diagram I posted.

Did you say 60 bones and delivered to your door? Did you use spacers?

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

yeah 60 bones for just the 4 rims, no tires. He said he had them in his work truck and would drop them off after work (so yeah delivered). I had to use adapters front an rear. 1" up front and 2" in the rear.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Thats the cheapest Ive heard for those rims so far. I was gonna go that route but decided to go with whitewalls.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I love whitewalls, however, nice ones from coker are around 250 each plus shipping. When I put my wanted ad in craigslist list I had a lot of offers for spares from 50-150 each with the tire. I guess I just got lucky with this guy. I would have spent 75-100 each rim, because I really liked them and so did my son. Also, I spent $125 each for my tires here locally (includes mount and balance), which beats the 250 plus Coker wants. I'm not knocking Coker, I just think there a little over priced, but that's just me.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

Thanks Jelly for keeping me in mind. I really think I'm gonna ditch the 2.8 soon. I seen a 2.8 engine on ebay last week that a local engine builder was selling. I thought about it for a second. But, I think I'm just gonna run a low horsepower 350 crate engine with an auto tranny. I (we)got stuck at a local car show the other day. We took the GMC. My wife can't drive a stick, I ended up getting really sick and couldn't drive home. So it's time to have an auto put in. I don't think I'll be driving to much anymore.
Here's the pic of the 2.8 the guy had on Ebay. It sold for $1,201.

This is my personal project that never really happened! A complete rebuilt 2.8 V6 that I was going to put in my 37 pickup. This engine was machined and rebuilt at my shop bakersfieldcrateengine.com . Google it if you want more info. It has been bore out .030 and stroked to a 195-197cid I forget which. I put a 3.1 crank in it and this engine now has a very healthy 10:1 compression. I also fitted it with a nice cam and springs that will increase the bottom end power a bunch. The engine should have a good idle and not choppy or shaky. The heads have been ported around the bowl area(pocket porting) and flow like newer style heads. This engine is fresh and has not been fired up. I have all the other parts to complete it including brackets and two intakes. One EFI and one carb. manifold. The engine originally came out of a 1986 S10 4X4. This engine was built to make lots of power and also get great fuel economy. It should have no problem making 220+ horsepower!

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I thought it was cool you had something other than a 350! I would love to hear that built 2.8 run! I had one in my old chev celebrity.

I have a rebuild stock 350/350turbo trans in my truck now but i am looking at other options. I kinda want something with EFI. I missed a fullsize Chevy silverado with a 5.3 that was rolled but the motor was good last week for $600!! Sill alot of time for me to make that decision.

Not gonna drive anymore? Hope you get to feeling better.

This reminded me i was going to asked about the adapters. Where did you get them and are they a certain thickness to get the wheels to fit?(like a spacer) I'm trying to get some of those wheels as we speak but i've had no luck. Found one wheel on ebay for $130+ not including shipping!! Need to find a deal like you got.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I have been following your thread and maybe I missed it but did you do the distressed look paint job yourself or did you get it that way??? I'm not sure I'll go that route with my 51 but I think it looks nostalgic and very cool. Any tips, pics or how-to's would be appreciated.

Thanks

Job well done and thank you for your sevice and sacrifice. It's people like you, defending people like us, that make this nation great.

Thanks for the kind words man. My son and I painted the truck with rustoleum paint (both in can and spray can). After we took care of the rust and dents we just rolled it on with high dense white rollers. Wet sanded and rolled on more (about 5-7 coats) once that was done. My son picked where he wanted the weathered areas to be. I used red oxide primer from rustoleum in a spray. I shot a few light coats of the red, then spayed over that with the green. We then wetsanded the area with 800-1000 grit sand paper till the red came through.

I think you and Cal are right about the red.
as far as the adapters go, they came from Ebay about $70 a pair. 1" up front and 2" in the rear. These rims are heavy and I'm sure shipping would kill you. Post a wanted add in craigslist for em and see who bites. I just bought another one to use as a spare and paid 50 bones for it, talked him down from 75, without a tire.

I just remembered you did a s-10 swap so mine will be different. I have a '78 monte front clip and rear axle. You wouldn't happen to know the width front and rear to the mount surface would you?

I'm gonna post a want add on craigslist soon, i not in a hurry so one wheel here and there will work for me!

Thanks for the info.

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

I don't know about red, seems like it is overdone lately. How about a little darker and brighter green? Would fit the USMC theme (maybe dark green to match the dark green USMC dress jackets?). Or black with some red and gold pinstripes, again to match the USMC theme? Just some ideas...

Re: Here's my GMC/S10 build

This weekend my son and I painted his rims. I liked OrrieG's idea about the green, but, my son wasn't having it. He was set on red. So now there red. I had to enlarge the center a tad to get the bullet caps to fit.
