Very nice project! I like what you did with the bed decision, I do like stepsides too if the they are from the right vintage. The Harley looks great too.
I'm subscribing.

It will be there.. Its actually almost all one color now. Its looking good.. atleast its not 6 colors. I am not going to have time to do everything I would like before the show but it should look decent from 10feet LOL. Just dont get close to it.

I did buy some headlight bezels.. getting fender wheels for the rear and a front bumper and new inner door panels this weekend. I also plan to pull my bed off thsi weekend. I hope i have time to get my C-notch put in and my new adjustable track bar and rear shocks but its going to be tough. With two kids and a busy job its tough finding time.

I am looking for some barn wood so I can get it layed in the bed. Any ideas of where to get it?

Still out on being able to attend period.

I'd just sign up as a participant ($20) and register as being a part of the 67-72chevytrucks.com group.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed

Well I have been working very very hard on the truck the past two weeks. I dont think I am going to make the cut to have it looking just okay enough to go to Good Guys and probably not even to the truck nationals. We will see though.. i am still working hard. Since its probably not going to get done I am posting some pictures.
This is the test hood.. Its two layers of satin rustoleum black and two layers of gloss safety red. Then I wetsanded the living crap out of it. It looks dull and weathered now. I actually like it alot.
No on to getting the rest of the body fixed up.. I only set myself on fire twice welding so thats pretty goood for a rookie LOL..

There is a little bondo in the bed but hey this thing is a cheaper driver. Someday I might get some new bedsides that are better but for now this is whats in the budget.

Looking great! I like the color. Thinking of doing a similar process on my 70 budget build with a couple more colors to create a patina.

I would still enter it since that was your goal. Even if you're not finished you can always enter it as under construction

Man, lot of progress in a short time. And don't sweat a little bondo. That's the only way to get the fine imperfections out of the sheetmetal. Unless you're using really nice NOS bedsides you will be happier with original metal in most cases.

Re: PROJECT LOW DOUGH -1967 shortbed

Yes they arent bad.. It was tough getting the driver side wheel arch patch lined up right but I think for my first patch panel it turned out great. The part I had issue with was the rear side marker lights. When I welded those in I think I got the metal to hot and it cause it to dip right above the marker. That is really the only part I am bummed about but that is whY I bought a cheaper truck to learn on. Over all its looking 5 thousand times better.. I might take tomorrow and thursday off so i can finish it so i can take it to Good Guys this weekend.

Yep, watch out for heat. It can be a real turd on sheetmetal. Once it's warped it can be nearly impossible to get out without just cutting a new patch. Sometimes you can make a cut in the dip or bulge shrink it or expand it then weld the cut seam. The key is only a little heat in one spot then bounce around with your welds. Takes time but worth it.

I did bounce around with the welds and only did spot welds. I am just not sure if its the way the metal is on the back that caused it. I put in a whole wheel arch on the drivers side with no issue and patched the rear behind the wheel with no issue doing the same technique. I am just not sure what happened. It did it on both sides.. I wonder if I got some water to spray on it or a wet rag to cool it down in btween if that would help. I might try to find some test panels and figure it out. Oh well no biggie.. It will be good enough for the driver truck.. I just want to learn what I did wrong so I dont make the same mistake when I get my show truck build going in a few years.
