Re: Short Changed

Waiting on Kyle.

Next step is welding some unused holes up, then painting it.

The challenge wasn't to get a good guys quality truck done in a week, but to finish Zoomins real show stopper the following week!

I think Kyle could go on car warriors by himself and finish in 48 hours.

Re: Short Changed

Kyle could easily have finished up earlier if he didn't have to wait on parts that I ordered, or outside people like the muffler shop and bedliner.

Wish you all could have seen it. The guys around the shop had seen me load Tom up. I had told them I was just going to get the firewall painted - which was the plan at the time. They were astonished when I brought the truck back completed a week later.

Re: Short Changed

Well, the little distraction that was hurricane Tom is now in the rear view mirror, so to speak, so Short Changed is getting some love after sitting in the corner for the last few weeks.

Kyle had to flip the frame over to weld up the underneath of the c-notches.

Rare photo of grunge on the shop floor. Kyle is real meticulous about keeping his shop clean - one of the things I look for when evaluating who I let work on my stuff.
Kinda funny because I can't keep my own shop like that to save my neck. Do as I say, not as I do.

Flipped it back over to start getting things positioned for final fitment before paint. Front suspension goes back on...

The rear end got the 4 bar brackets welded on fully instead of just being tacked on.

Engine and transmission are dropped into place.

Ordered the brake lines, fittings, and headers and they hopefully will be here by Friday. The object is to get all the holes drilled and crossmembers set prior to paint.

Thanks Kyle,

Not sure I agree it is the only way to go for all builds.. But for this one I can definitely understand why you went with it; it is so much cleaner and better looking than the stock harness.. Only the best for this build.

Looking forward to more progress.. have a great day..

Re: Short Changed

Mark, I hear ya on the wiring harness deal. I think it's really cool how you rolled your own, and I would if I had your ability and the time.

I got a few more deliveries this week. The spouse is definitely tuned into this, what with all the stuff showing up for Tom recently. She doesn't get mad, she gets even. They are weird that way I guess, but this build is gonna cost me.

After researching the LS forum for several hours, I discovered that Doug Thorley headers were highly recommended, and I can see why. They are nicely finished with ceramic coating inside and out, and they are designed for these trucks - they fit perfectly with no notching, and there's plenty of room to get to the starter and not worry about heat soak. They are also completely above the bottom of the frame rail, so no scraping issues with these rascals.

Started to test fit the rack and pinion steering setup today. It's tucked up there nice for plenty of clearance. It's going to be interesting to see how the steering makes it way around the headers and the engine mounts.

Re: Short Changed

Steve,

Those headers look great and the clearance is really good on them. They look like that would have worked on my K10 with the Pacific fabrication cross member. I considered them on the K10, but was afraid they would not fit. What is the LS out of? I might be interested in the stock manifolds.

Re: Short Changed

Those headers look nice and looks like you have a mile of clearance. And don't worry about the steering, just go wireless
