Sound-proofing 69 Stepside

Anyone got any great ideas on quieting down my ride?

It only came with a flimsy little floor mat and there's no sound treatment on ceiling, doors, hood, firewall or floor.

What can I do here?

A lot of people seem to reccomend Dynamat for soundproofing, you can do floors, inside the doors, bulkhead etc with it. Getting some carpet down will help as well, but hey, it's a truck not a BMW, it was designed to do a job not to be a luxury car, just get a louder exhaust and listen to the engine or a big sound system!

There are some other threads on here that also recommend either a product called "Brown Bread", or another product called "Raamat". I think they are very compariable to Dynamat, "brown bread" claims to be better than Dynamat, and a hell of a lot cheaper!!

Hope this helps a little.

In addition to the areas for sound material installation, do the back wall behind the gas tank. If you go with a head liner and soft door panels, this helps, also.

Here's what I did with a Dynamat knockoff from E-bay. I don't know the results yet since the truck isn't done.

Mocwon, how much square feet did it take to cover your cab? I see brown bread in 10.5 sq ft and then 35 sq ft.

The stuff I bought off Ebay last year was a Dynamat knockoff but I don't remember the name. It was $100 + $25 shipping for 100 sq.ft. I have enough left to do the inside of the doors. The only thing I didn't like about it is that it required heat to apply and it took quite a while to install it.

This stuff looks like a better deal and it is pressure sensative:

Not to steal the thread but has anyone tried to insulate between the two layers of the roof?

Good question. I'm running an ABS headliner that holds 4 speakers and covers the whole headliner area. I drilled a 3/4" hole to run the wires through, and while banging around up there, I noticed how hollow it sounded and thought I should do something about it.

I had used the canned expanded foam called Great Stuff on several projects around the house, so I had some handy. I shot some through that hole, then got a longer tube and pushed it up through the openings at the back of the cab into the front, middle and sides. It held a couple of cans of the minimal-expanding foam. They also have a version that expands a lot more, but I was afraid it might ooze out somewhere I didn't want it.

It made a big difference, and cost about 12 bucks. Now if the floors and doors were that easy...SSOW

I bought the Brown Bread recently but have yet to install it. From the checking I did it looked like the best stuff. Do a search for Brown Bread and you'll find som more info.

I must have it all backwards. I took it all out to save weight.
It's not a 1/4 screamer, but it'll blow the doors off of the ricers at the green light.
Now I just need to lose a hunder pounds off of my fat a$$.

I thought of using the expanding foam but was afraid it would bow the roof.
