Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

I started on the SS Camaro hood modification. In keeping with the theme of what a '68 SS pickup might have looked like, I am grafting the center velocity stack "ice cube trays" from a '68 Camaro SS hood into the truck hood. It seemed best to install the whole center section including the pointed peak to give the hood a more aggressive look. Unfortunately the '67 Chevy hood I have wasn't in the best shape. It appeared that a flex fan had decided to come apart and put a whole bunch of outward dents in the hood. The good thing was this made the hood a prime candidate for modifiaction, the bad news was I could not get all those dents out without a major oil can problem, so I replaced a section out of the drivers side of the hood while I installed the center of the Camaro hood. Pics show the process, I still have quite a bit of welding to do next weekend.

Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

Final got some updates on here. It would have been sooner if the website allowed mobile uploads. Anyway I filled in the original blower hole as well as fixing poor repairs in the upper fender mount. After that was done, I started body working the closeout panels and the roof of the cab. I also re hung the passenger door to verify fit after the rock replacement and to bodywork the cab corners to match any slight variation between it and the door. Lastly I modified an original power brake booster bracket to fit a '92 astro van hydroboost I had bought at a junk yard. The bot pattern is the same as the stock vacuum booster, but the rod is just over 1 inch longer. In the effort to not make custom parts for "wear" items I thought it best to make the bracket longer so that if I need to replace the booster, it would be a simple parts swap instead of having to modify a new one. It isn't the prettiest way to do it, but the most effective for a truck I intend to drive a lot.

Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

Sprayed polyester on the roof and final blocked it out, and started matching the door to the cab corner. Not exciting, but it has to be done.

Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

I haven't been able to work on the truck for a while again because of the SEMA deadline on a car at work, then playing catch up on the other cars at work that we put on hold for the SEMA car. I did manage to get an afternoon in on Christmas Eve to do some more work on the tailgate. Sprayed polyester primer on it and have it about ready for urethane primer then paint.

Re: 1968 GMC "Camillian"

Extra long overdue update, its a little frustrating that my iphone or the site wont allow mobile uploads, so I finally had some time to copy the pictures from my phone and get some on here. There has been a bunch more bodywork and sanding, which doesn't always look like a lot in pictures. I also installed roll pans on either end, and went about making the '68 Camaro bumpers fit, I ended up using two back bumpers and one front bumper to make them wide enough to fit the truck. I also set the bed on momentarily so I could get a feel for what everything is going to look like. After I was satisfied with the rear roll pan and bumper, I pulled the bed and sprayed the final coat of primer before paint.I will leave the rest to pictures...maybe more than one post of pictures to get caught up.
